Bucky Barnes x Reader
(Y/B/G/F) = Your best girl friendYou sat at the bar with your best friend, (Y/B/G/F). She held a martini in her hand and was facing away from you, flirting shamelessly with whoever was sitting next to her. You couldn't help but let out a slightly angry laugh. She had dragged you here instead of letting you have a nice calm Friday night in the comfort of your own home, watching a movie. Now, instead of conversing with you and hanging out with you, she was ignoring you.
Your hands fumbled your beer bottle in boredom, fingernails scraping at the brown-tinted glass. Your friend had told you not to order a beer, that it would chase guys away. She said it would make you seem rugged and intimidating. You replied snappily by explaining how you wouldn't want a guy stuck on such gender roles anyways, to which she sighed and turned away.
You had, in fact, been approached by multiple men. None of them interested you in the slightest, as they all approached you with a cocky smirk and a dirty pickup line about taking you back to their place. (Y/B/G/F) even helped in shooing them away, her protective side seeping through momentarily as she practically chased them away from you.
"Just go say it!" Someone said behind you at full volume. No one would hear a whisper in here, so full volume was the quietest option.
"No way, Steve! She's beautiful, I'll just lock up!" Another voice argued. You chuckled lightly, raising the beer bottle to your lips and taking a sip. "You're sure I did this before?"
"Positive! My god, just go say it! She'll think it's cute, I promise." You resisted the urge to turn around and look for the two men speaking, not wanting to put added pressure on the poor second fellow. A frustrated sputtering of noises came from behind you, followed by a groan and a surprised shout.
A body toppled into you, and you gasped with fright. Your body turned towards a red faced man, eyes wide and his mouth hanging open. You had to admit, he was absolutely adorable. His long brown hair flopped messily into his astonishingly blue eyes. His jawline was well defined and his light stubble contrasted greatly with the blush sweeping across his face. You couldn't help but smile at his flabbergasted expression, frozen in shock.
After a moment, his eyes flickered behind you and he straightened up, looking you in the eyes. You could see the fear in his eyes, but the crack in his voice when he spoke was another dead give away of just how shy this man was at the moment. "I've got a question for you. Where do you hide your wings, angel?"
A bright smile made its way onto your lips. That was the first time today that a guy didn't treat you like a piece of meat. His blue eyes stayed fixated on your own (Y/E/C) eyes instead of roaming your body. You couldn't help the giggle that bubbled from your throat. This caused his face to light up, and his muscles seemed to relax as well.
Upon scanning his appearance, you found his left arm to be a shiny metal. At least his hand was, as he was wearing a long sleeve leather jacket on top of a plain white t-shirt. Your eyes rolled passively over the reflective surface, surprising the man.
"I'll admit, that was pretty darn cute," you commented, finishing off your beer with a smile. "You got any more?" You wanted to see if this was all just a facade, or if he really was just that cute.
"I uh- I had a couple, but I guess that's the one my brain decided on." He took a seat next to you, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Could I hear the others?" You asked after a moment. He chuckled, ordering two beers and turning to you.
"Are you a magician? Because when I look at you, everyone else disappears." He took one of the beers for himself, pushing the second to you as he spoke. You threw your head back in a joyous laugh. You'd never heard that one before.
"The man smiled in relief, grabbing his phone and turning the screen towards you. "I've got to show you the most beautiful girl in the world, check it out!" You turned your gaze to the screen, seeing yourself. He had turned his phone on to the front camera so you could see your own face.
After another round of laughter and smiles, you spoke. "My name is (Y/N)." You held out your hand, and he shook it.
"I'm Bucky. It's nice to meet you, doll." You blushed at the nickname, and he grinned. From then on, Bucky seemed much more comfortable around you. You two traded your favorite pickup lines, whether they were cheesy, cute, sly, or dirty. You learned that his name was really James Buchanan Barnes, best friend to Steve Rogers. You asked him nothing about HYDRA or his work, instead focusing on asking him about American culture in the 40's. He remembered more than you expected, repeatedly apologizing for rambling. You couldn't care less if he rambled, you just loved the lively twinkle in his eye. Sure, it was a light twinkle, as he was still recovering, but it was there. It was beautiful.
"And this dancing! I mean, come on! What even is that?" He exclaimed, turning and motioning to a girl twerking on what seemed to be a random man. You were hunched over, clutching your gut from the pain of laughing so hard. A stray tear ran down your face and Bucky was grinning like a mad man.
"Honestly, I wish I was alive back then. Sure, the world wasn't in great shape, but the nation was united. Like, really united. This is just... Chaos. Complete and utter chaos. Even I can't keep up anymore," you admitted, eyes scanning the dark bar and the neon-lit dance floor. When you turned back to look at Bucky, he was already staring back at you. His eyes were soft and the corners of his mouth were turned up in a calm smile. "What's wrong?" You sputtered, becoming a blushing, stuttering mess under his gaze.
Bucky chuckled, messing with his beer bottle. "Nothing, angel. I just love the way you think. And the way your eyes light up when you talk about things you're passionate about."
You smiled at him. "I could say the same about you. You're a great guy, Bucky." He seemed to force out a laugh at that, and you realized something about him. He didn't believe that he was great, he couldn't forgive himself for what HYDRA made him do.
Taking this into consideration, you spent the rest of the night joking and laughing with the super soldier. By the end of the night, his bar stool had somehow moved to be pressed against your own, and his metal arm was draped lightly over your shoulders as you conversed.
"(YYYYY/NNNNNN)!" Your friend called from behind you. She had long since left the seat next you, and now she was absolutely wasted. Bucky jumped and tensed at the sudden noise next to him, so you placed you hand over his right hand that was resting on the bar. "(Y/N) I th-think that I neeeedddd to go h-home nooowwww! I'm g-gettinggggg tired (YYYYYY/NNNNN)!"
You sighed, looking over at a very amused Bucky with an annoyed look. He shrugged with a smile. "Don't look at me, I didn't do it."
"(Y/B/G/F), just give me one second. And do not, under any circumstances, move from that spot," You demanded your drunken friend, looking her in the eyes. She grinned and, after almost falling over, stood up straight and sloppily saluted. You turned back to Bucky once again and rolled your eyes, making him laugh once again. "Alright, I guess that's my cue. Here," You began, grabbing a napkin and a pen from your purse, scribbling down your number and handing it to him. He took it and scanned it quickly. "And you better call me, alright? At least send me a text or something. I don't give that number out to just anyone." You sent him a quick wink and he sent one back.
"No worries, I might have to restrain myself from calling you as soon as you leave." You both stood, and you wrapped your arms around him in a hug. After a moment's hesitation, Bucky followed suit and wrapped his arms around you. Just as you pulled away, he placed his hands on your waist and kissed your cheek. "I'll see you around, doll," he said next to your ear, just loud enough for you to hear. It sent shivers down your spine, and he chuckled at your reaction.
Let's just say, he couldn't restrain himself from calling for too long, and you had a very tired day at work the next day after a night of speaking to the one and only Bucky Barnes.
I hope that was okay, I've been back at school for three days and it's already worn me out. I'll try to get some more one shots written tomorrow since it's Sunday tomorrow, so who would you guys like to see them be about? More Bucky? More Sebastian? Any cute TJ friend one shots? Chris Beck perhaps? Requests are open for any of those guys, and I happily take requests for what happens in them (very happily, AKA please help me my brain is dead and this crappy one shot was all I could think of). Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for reading!
Stay street, stay unlit, stay alive.
