Bucky Barnes x Kelly

Requested by @Jeffersons_MadLover! I know some days can be difficult, and sometimes it feels like the bad days last so long that you might never be happy again. I can promise you that's not true. It will get better, I promise you that. You just need to stay alive long enough to see it happen. Please message me if you guys ever need to talk, my PMs are always open. <3

Tears flowed down your face in a steady stream. Light sobs escaped your throat and small whimpers passed your lips. Your head was pounding from the stress of the day coupled with the dehydration of crying for so long. Your vision was blurred from the tears constantly pooling your eyes.

It was safe to say that you hadn't had the greatest day. You slept through your alarm and showed up late to work, you spilled hot coffee on yourself, you lost your wallet and all the money inside it (including your bus money), and to top it all off, your boss fired you right before your shift ended. That was everything that led up to this moment, as you dragged your feet lazily on the concrete sidewalk. The soles of your shoes scraped loudly against the ground with each step, but you couldn't bring yourself to pick up your feet.

The collision of a rain drop against the top of your head was the cherry on top of your mess of a day. A crack of thunder filled the air as the sky began to pelt everything beneath it with a violent storm. The wind whipped around you and the rain caused your clothes to cling to your body. Your salty tears blended in with the fresh rain in your cheeks until even you weren't sure what was from you and what was from the sky.

Your arrival home was anything but graceful. Your shivering hands fumbled messily with your key, causing you to drop it more than you would've liked. You finally got the key into the lock and twisted it before swinging the door open and rushing inside. You shut the door behind you and began to take off as many articles of sopping wet clothing as you could.

The house was silent and most of the lights were off, telling you that you were home alone. You sniffled and made your way up to your bedroom. You snatched a couple towels from the linen closet along the way and began to dry yourself to the best of your ability before you began putting on a much warmer and more comfortable outfit.

You tossed your old clothes into the laundry pile, too worn down to actually do anything with them. Your teeth continued to chatter even though you were mostly dry, so you wandered back downstairs and curled up on the couch underneath a blanket. You felt the tears starting to roll down your face once more, and you just let them soak into the pillow beneath your head.

You weren't sure how long you sat there before you heard keys jingling outside. The front door opened soon after, alerting you that Bucky was home.

Usually this was when you would greet him at the door with a smile and a kiss, but you couldn't bring yourself to it today. You didn't want to get up and act like you were okay, because you weren't. Today wasn't your day, and you weren't going to act like it was.

Bucky quickly realized something was wrong as he kicked off his shoes and stripped his raincoat off. Not only had you not greeted him yet, but all of the lights were still off. There wasn't a noise in the house. He shifted his gaze down to your still damp shoes sitting in a puddle on the ground next to the door. Your house key sat neatly on the table in the entrance way.

"Kelly?" He called worriedly as he made his way into the house. He almost missed you when he passed through the living room, but he quickly realized his mistake and spun back around. He knelt down next to you and placed his right hand lightly on your shoulder. "What's wrong, doll?" He asked softly. You turned around to look at him, and his heart broke when he saw the tears running down your cheeks. He reached out and wiped them away.
