Bucky Barnes x Reader
I hate myself bc of this I'm so sorry wow why do I do this to myself omfg. Also! They don't mention Bucky's family much in the MCU, so I used a mixture of his comic book background and the established MCU background. Hope it doesn't confuse anyone <3

Bucky Barnes rarely cries in public. The list of times he's cried in front of anyone wouldn't even reach halfway down a sheet of notebook paper. This wasn't to say that he wasn't an emotional guy, he just didn't like to show it. He especially didn't like to show it when he was around people he cared about.
He cried more before he became the Winter Soldier. Before HYDRA hardened him and forced him to bury his emotions deep inside his mind until even he couldn't find them. He cried when he lost his parents. He cried when he broke his wrist as a child while he was rough housing with some other kids. He cried when he
He also cried at the funeral of Sarah Rogers. Bucky had, of course, remained completely silent as he let his tears fall. He also made sure he was standing behind Steve so the poor boy wouldn't catch sight of his best friend bawling over his mother. Bucky had to protect Steve, so he had to be strong whenever Steve could see him. He couldn't console the scrawny boy properly if he too was being choked with sobs.
Bucky cried again when he learned that he had been drafted into the war. He knew that Steve was already begging and pleading to be accepted into the Army, and this would only be a splash of lighter fluid onto that flame of dedication. He was terrified to go. He was terrified that Steve would somehow follow him. He was afraid that Steve wouldn't follow him, and would instead get himself into a fight back in Brooklyn that he wouldn't walk away from. He was terrified that he wouldn't make it home to make sure Steve was safe. He was terrified that he would lose his life in the same way that his father had. He was terrified. But he couldn't let Steve know that, so he put on a brave face throughout the whole ordeal.
After HYDRA took him, Bucky often found himself crying in his cell. Back at the very beginning of it all, back when he still had the ability to feel, he would just curl up in the corner of his cell and bawl his eyes out. He often didn't even know what he was crying about - besides, he didn't even know his name most of the time. He just felt... Lost. Sad. Alone. Afraid. But then they would wipe him clean again, and the tears would stop for a while, until finally they broke him, and every trace of Bucky was gone.
The next time he cried was after his mission on the bridge. Steve Rogers. The man that he knew. He had never known anyone before, and the fact that he remembered this man with such kindness was shocking enough to break the Winter Soldier open. Then, of course, he was wiped, and the tears went away.
Sometime after that and after the Sokovia Accords were signed and after he went into hiding with Steve, he met you. Tony had called them out on an urgent mission against none other than HYDRA themselves. Tony needed help rescuing someone that had fallen into the hands of the evil organization, and the duo knew that they couldn't refuse. They infiltrated HYDRA's base and Bucky began making his way down the eerily familiar halls and corridors until he heard the sound of soft sobs coming from a nearby room. He gripped the door with his metal arm and ripped it off its hinges, keeping his gun at the ready just in case he needed it, but he lowered his weapon as soon as his eyes landed on you. You were sat in a ball in the corner of your cell, your face red and tear stained. Bucky felt his heart breaking at the sight, his mind wandering back to his time doing the exact same thing. Tears pooled in his eyes as he reached out a hand towards you, and the first one rolled down his cheek the moment you placed your hand in his.
He didn't cry much after he found you. He didn't feel the need to anymore. In fact, the next time he cried after that was while watching Marley and Me on the couch with you late one night. You were oblivious to his tears until you heard him taking in shaky breaths from beside you. You just smiled softly at him and shuffled closer to him until he finally pulled you up against him and buried his face in your neck, his tears dripping onto your skin as he muttered something to the effect of, "that dog didn't deserve that."
