Bucky Barnes x Robin
Requested by @IAmMarvelTrash, enjoy! I hope this is alright, I don't have my list of requests with me so I don't remember your exact request. I believe this is pretty close to what you were wanting!
You were awoken by Bucky tossing and turning next to you, small whimpers passing his lips. You sat up in your drowsy state, rubbing the sleep from your eyes. It took a moment for the situation to sink in, but once it did, you jumped into action.
"Bucky... Bucky. Buck! Wake up!" You slowly raised your voice with each time you called his name. You were gripping his shoulders and shaking him until his eyes finally flew open.
His body shot up, his chest heaving as he gasped for air. Tears immediately filled his bright blue eyes and a sob left his mouth. His body was shaking and you had to turn him to face you so you could look into his eyes.
"Bucky, Bucky, it's okay! I promise you it's okay, it was just a dream. It was just a dream," you assured him. It took him a moment to focus his gaze on you, but when he finally did, the relief in his eyes broke your heart.
"R-Robin...?" He whispered shakily. Bucky's human hold slowly reached up and his fingers traced along your cheek. His eyes were filled with wonder, as if he didn't believe you were real. "You're... You're oka-okay?" He stuttered out, tears still streaming down his cheeks. You felt tears forming in your own eyes at this point and you nodded.
"I'm okay, Bucky. I'm alright. See? I'm real," you whispered, taking both of his hands and holding them to your face. You pressed a light kiss to both of them, and he pulled you into a tight embrace.
"I thought I lost you... I thought I-" he cut himself off with a sob, burying his face in your neck. You gripped onto his shirt and held him to you.
"You thought what, Buck? What's wrong? What happened in your nightmare?" You asked him. He took in a deep, shaky breath.
"I... I thought that I... Killed you..." He admitted, clutching you even tighter as te words left his lips. Your eyes widened and you held him even closer. "HYDRA had taken me back. They wiped me again and set me back into my place as the Winter Soldier. They told me my next target, and it was you. They told me you were in the way of the big picture they had set up, and I just went with it... I didn't remember who you were... I went after you and when I found you, you wouldn't leave. Steve and Sam tried to get you away but you just kept refusing and you confronted me. You tried to make me remember, but I just wouldn't do it... And I didn't remember until it was over and you were gone."
You felt his tears dripping into your neck and down the back of your shirt, but you didn't care. You just sat there holding him close to you. You reassured him that you were okay over an over until he finally fell back to sleep, and you did the same.
This wasn't the first time he had nightmares like this, and it wasn't the last. It was the first one where you were the subject, however. This seemed to destroy him more than any other dream had so far. He was shaky and jumpy the next morning. You woke up to him still holding you tightly against his chest, but he was already awake. He was resting his head on top of yours and whispering quietly in what sounded like Russian, but you couldn't quite hear him.
You took a deep breath and let out a content sigh so he knew you were awake. He stopped his mumbling and loosened his grip so you could sit up. You rubbed your face momentarily before looking back at him with a smile. His hands were still resting on your hips and he smiled lightly.
"Good morning, Bucky," you greeted him.
"Good morning, Robin," he replied, his morning voice deep and rough. You threw the covers off of your legs and swung your legs over the side of the bed. Your feet touched the cold hard wood floors of your bedroom and you shivered. You heard Bucky getting up as well from behind you.
You both got ready for the day, and since you got ready before him, you decided to make breakfast for the two of you. You went downstairs while he was in the shower and started making pancakes.
You were a few minutes into your cooking and you heard Bucky's panicked voice calling out your name from the top of the stairs.
"Robin? Robin?" He called. You dropped your spatula and rushed out into the foyer, where you could see Bucky looking down over the railing from upstairs.
"Bucky, are you okay?" You asked worriedly. He let it a relieved sigh and he began walking down the stairs. When he reached you, he wrapped his arms around your waist and placed his head on your shoulder. You hugged him back in confusion.
"I thought you left..."
If this wasn't heartbreaking enough, the amount of times that he jumped from the smallest sounds and touches for the rest of the day surely was. You would be in the kitchen while he was watching TV and just you calling out his name would have him jumping off of the couch. You wished you could help, but you just weren't sure how. For some reason, this dream had brought his usual calm and stony facade crashing down.
That night as you were settling into bed, you found yourself taking quick looks at Bucky every few moments to make sure he was okay. You climbed into bed next to him and turned off your bedside lamp. He quickly followed suit. You said your goodnights and both fell asleep like usual.
This time, he woke up before you did. He shot up, jolting you awake. You sat up immediately and carefully placed a hand on his shoulder. He jumped at your touch and snapped his gaze towards you. His eyes were wide with fear and you could tell that this one was about you again. You pulled him towards you without a word, and he held you just as tightly as he had the night before.
"They got you this time... They got you... And I couldn't save you... I couldn't make it to you in time..." His whispered shakily. That was it, that was the last straw. You pulled away and took his face in your hands. You peered into his eyes for a few moments before you opened your mouth to speak.
"Bucky, listen to me. That will never happen. They won't get to you, they won't get to me. We have friends that will help us, and we have each other. We can stay away from them. We're strong enough, alright? They will never ever get to you again, and I can assure you that I won't let them get me. We're safe and we always will be. Alright?"
He looked at you for a moment and swallowed the lump in his throat before slowly nodding. "Okay... Okay..." He whispered. You gave him a small smile, and he returned it.
His nightmares lessened after that night. They no longer bothered him every night, and they didn't always end badly. It wasn't perfect, but it was a start. It was the start of his recovery.
I just wrote this in about 30 minutes (much faster than usual leave me alone I write slow) and I wasn't sure how to end it, so I hope this is okay! Thanks so much for reading!!
