Your heart pumped loud and heavy in your chest, the sound of your own pulse filling your ears. Your breath came out in clouds of vapor in the frigid air around you. This air, of course, was nothing to you. The nipping chill was like a tickle on your skin. You were used to the painful grip of HYDRA agents. This was nothing.

Your feet smacked almost violently against the ground. Your feet were numb from the cold, even in your boots, so every footfall sent a wave of sharp pain up through your leg. It was enough to shake your frame each time it happened, but you had to push it away to the back of your mind if you wanted to keep going. If you lingered on the pain you were feeling, you wouldn't make it. You wouldn't make it to safety. You wouldn't make it to freedom.

You knew they were chasing you. You knew that they wanted to take you back. You knew that if you let them take you again, you would be wiped and you wouldn't be able to leave again. You couldn't have that. You didn't want to be controlled anymore, you couldn't take it.

You had been running for what felt like days, but you knew that it had only been a few hours. You no longer heard your pursuers, but you didn't dare stop until you found a safe house. The sun had fallen from the sky long ago, and you were making your way around solely by the light of the moon. It wasn't until you came in sight of a large mansion that you even thought of stopping.

Your eyes widened at the sight of the large mansion, and you immediately knew that this place would be difficult for you to get into. This, of course, meant that HYDRA would have a hard time getting in as well. Your eyes skillfully scanned the outer walls of the house. You looked over each window and chose the one that you felt you had the best chance with. There were no cars outside, so you assumed that no one was home.

Getting up to the mansion wasn't quite as difficult as it was to scale the wall up to the window. There were no good handholds for you to grip onto, and half of the time your feet were dangling as your arms held your entire body steady. You couldn't use any tools to get up, as that would risk damaging the wall, which would be a red flag to HYDRA. Your only option was the scale the wall freely, using only what was already there.

As you reached your ideal window, you grabbed a tactical knife from your belt and stuck it underneath the window. The tip of the knife was jammed underneath the lock, and you began wiggling it until the lock was unlatched. You smirked slightly before the expression was wiped from your face again, and you slid the window up silently. You swung yourself up and over the windowsill until your left foot touched down onto the plush carpet. You brought your other half inside silently before quickly closing the window and walking over to the couch across the room. You sat down on it and twisted a bit, your eyes carefully examining the bullet wound in your side. Usually the doctors would take care of these things, but you didn't have a doctor anymore. You just knew that you had to get that bullet out before the super soldier serum kicked in and started healing the wound with the metal bullet still inside you.

Just as you were about the flip on a lamp to get a better look, the door to the room you had broken into swung open to reveal a brunette man with blue eyes, defined cheekbones, and an old gray t-shirt and jeans. His eyes widened as they landed on you and he gasped. His feet slipped a bit on the carpeting and he began to stumble backwards. You quickly bolted upright and rushed towards him, grabbing him and pressing him against the wall.

"Who are you?" You seethed your eyes scanning over his frightened face. You saw his Adam's apple bob as he swallowed a lump in his throat.

"M-my name is T-TJ Hammond," he replied with a fearful stutter. Your gaze narrowed.
