Missy and Drew had dragged me onto the couch during my blackout. It must've been hours since I was able to wake up, using up the fleeting time of the day.
"What happened?" I asked in a dreary voice, rubbing my eyes so I could see the two of them clearer.
"Well, you passed out after I told you that Levi's song--" I gasped.
"The song! I need to go," I said quickly, grabbing my jacket and rushing out the door. I drove and drove to the music store, and once I finally got there I ran up to Kitty at the front desk.
"Kitty!" I exclaimed, out of breath from rushing.
"Honey, you take off work today. Now shoo, Kitty's expecting some very important customers," she said, rolling her eyes at me.
"No, Kitty. I need your help! You know how I'm entering that contest tomorrow? For singing?" I asked rapidly.
"Do I know? Sugar, you've been goin' off about that ever since you found out that you were entering--" She stopped talking at my scolding expression.
"Anyway," I continued. "Levi wrote me a song to sing in the show. Acctually, it turns out that it wasn't his song at all! It was a Green Day song! So Kitty, I really need you to help me out here. The show is tomorrow, and if I don't have a damn song to sing, it'll cost me my dreams. Please, Kitty? Pleaseeeee?" She rolled her eyes, giving in.
"Come back here. Kitty will show you somethin" She motioned toward the back, where she gives music lessons. I followed her there, and she pulled out an old trunk. She dusted it off, opened it, and took out a folder labeled, "Original Songs by Kitty" She then handed it to me, and I started looking through it. "Hey," she started. "Doesn't Kitty get a thank you for savin' your ass at the last minute?"
"Well, I havn't seen if you've saved me just yet," I replied, laughing.
"Oh kay, aw kay. Kitty gets it. She gets it. But this is Kitty we're talkin' 'bout. You won't find one bad song in that book. Go ahead. Just try," she said, her hands on her hips. I flipped through a couple of pages.
"Wow, Kitty! These are amazing! You really wrote all of these?" I asked in astonishment.
"That's what it says on the cover, doesn't it? Just don't use 'Not So Perfect' or 'Lucky Shot' Those are kinda famous, so you wouldn't want any copyrighters goin' after you about that"
"That's too bad. I like 'Not So Perfect...' a lot. Hmmmm," I said, still flipping through.
"Come on, sweets. We ain't got all day, you know"
"Okay, okay!" I said, flipping quicker now. "Ooooh! I like this one! 'Never Before' That's perfect!" I shouted excitedly.
"Alright, alright, I'm glad. Go, on now. Put the songs back in their trunk. They need their sleep"
"Kitty, thank you so much. You're a lifesaver!" I screamed as I flew out the door. I tried to get home quickly to practice, but there was so much traffic. I just decided to practice singing the song in the car.
I sang and sang the song that Kitty had given me. I acctually liked this song much better than the song that Levi "wrote" for me.
Levi!
In my worriedness over the song, I had almost forgotten that he was going to propose! I then got a text from Margaux that said:
Margaux- Hey sorry but levi and i cant come over today like you wanted us to.....but guess where levi's taking me tonight??!!!????
I played along.
Me- Where
Margaux- The old chinese place where we first met! Isn't that soooooo romantic?? I love him!! <3<3
