I couldn’t help but feel scared for him, would he fight them or was he just giving us a chance to leave without being hassled more by those guys. Whatever happened I couldn’t help but feel grateful, god only knows what could have happened if he wasn’t there to help me and Emma.

Emma ended up getting a long talk about strangers and I got an even longer talk about keeping a better eye on her. I deserved it though. I shouldn’t have let Louis distract me from watching over my sister. If he didn’t show up I would have kept my eye on her. I liked talking to him though. He was an ass sometimes but for a moment we were having a normal conversation.

Monday at school I looked everywhere for Louis. I needed to properly thank him for what he did and let him know how much I appreciated it.

He didn’t show up to class, big shocker so I had to wait till lunch to go out on a full hunt for him. I don’t know why this was so important to me. It’s almost like I cared about him.

I shook that thought out of my head as I made my way outside. I found him with a group of rough looking kids in the back of the school. I slowly walked over to wear they were all sitting and laughing together.

“Louis,” I said nervously making them all looking at me. They all made me feel intimidated but I focused on Louis’ softer blue eyes to give me the courage to talk again. “Mind if I have a quick word?” I asked. He nodded slowly and stood up from the table he was sitting at.

We walked farther away from his friends before I turned to face him and looked up at him. I quickly noticed a purplish bruise around one of his eyes. I bit my lip nervous as he swayed his shaggy hair to the side to cover it.

“Was that from them?” I asked nervously. He shrugged. “I’m sorry,” I said feeling really guilty. He chuckled a bit.

“It’s nothing I can’t handle, besides why are you apologizing?” he asked.

“Because if it wasn’t for my sister you wouldn’t have had to deal with them,” I said dropping my head. “I should have stayed, I should have done something but I didn’t and you got hurt,” I said frowning.

“Hey it’s okay. I’d rather it be me than you or worse your little sister,” he told me softly. I looked up at him a little surprised by the gentleness of his voice.

“Did it hurt?” I asked sadly. He smiled as a response.

“Course not,” he said cockily raising his head up high. I chuckled a bit.

“Well I just wanted to say thank you, for stepping in. I don’t know what I would have done if you weren’t around,” I told him. He smiled a bit shrugging it off.

“Anytime, happy to help,” he said again making it seem like it was no big deal.

“Still I really appreciate it,” I told him.

“It’s fine Jenn really it wasn’t a big deal,” he said his face getting a little more seriously.

“To me it was, you were kind of a hero back then,” I told him. He looked away and I got the feeling he didn’t like all this gratitude.

“I’m no hero,” he said. I was surprised as he dropped his head a bit and leaned against the wall.

“Of course you are, like I said god only knows what could have happened if you weren’t there,” I told him.

“Yea well if it weren’t for me you wouldn't have gotten distracted from watching your sister,” he said plainly. I frowned.

“That was my fault not yourself. I should have paid more attention to my sisters. I mean honestly watching someone and talking isn’t that hard,” I said looking away feeling ashamed.

“Still think you would have been better off I didn’t show up,” he stated looking away as well. I looked back at him with a quiet sigh.

“Look I came here to thank you. I didn’t want to start playing the blame game, so thanks,” I said dully and walked around him. Why couldn’t we ever have normal conversations. Why couldn’t he just accept that I was grateful and that he did something nice for me that I appreciated.

“’Wait,” he spoke before I got too far. I stopped and slowly turned to look back at him. “I’m sorry okay. I guess I’m not used to someone telling me I did something right,” he said in a low voice. I eyed him for a moment watching his face give off mixed emotions as he stared at the ground.

“You’re not used to someone show you gratitude are you?” I asked as I walked closer to him. He shook his head keeping his stare down.

“I’m not the type to do much good,” he said. I smiled a bit walking closer looking up at him and trying to get him to look back at me.

“Well you did good last night and I thank you so much for it,” I told him softly. He finally met my gaze and I smiled at him to show I meant what I said. He smiled slightly keeping his blue eyes locked on mine.

“You’re welcome,” he said. I smiled a bit more. He smiled back before looking down almost with a shy gesture.

“Yo Tomlinson come get some of this stuff before it’s gone,” one of his friends yelled over at us.

“Coming,” Louis called back. My shoulders dropped, I could only assume they were up to no good. I looked into his eyes as he looked back at me.

“Back to being bad I guess?” I asked dully. He shrugged.

“It’s the only thing I’m good at,” he teased with a playful smile. I nodded and he walked around me.

“Don’t get caught,” I warned turning to watch him walk away.

“Never do,” he said glancing at me with a wink then turned back to his friends. I watched from a distance as him as his group of friends lit up some sort of cigarette. Why did he have to be like that? He wasn’t to do good I could tell but it’s like people have chosen his bad boy path for him and the only option he sees for himself is to play the bad boy role given to him.
