My hand flew up to my neck. It was still a little sensitive but I hadn’t thought about it till now.
“A rash,” I quickly covered.
“A rash?” my mom asked a little concerned.
“Y-yea, it’s no big deal. I think it was her pillows it got itchy in the night,” I said and quickly got to my feet. “I’m going to see if I can find something to sooth it,” I said moving quick to get out of the living room. My dad eyed me suspiciously and I knew he would know be keeping a closer eye on me. Just what I needed.
The week went by fairly smoothly. Louis and I both managed to stay out of trouble even with Dani and his gang watching out every move.
On Wednesday and school dance was announced for that Friday and Louis and I decided to go to lighten the mood. He was healing well but still never told me what happened to his stomach. I never pressed the issue and I never actually got to see but it did leave me with certain assumptions, getting stabbed being one of them.
Friday night came and I decided to wear the blue skirt my mom had bought me. It was pretty but really hard to find something to go with it. I eventually settled on a nice white blouse and a gold belt that I had laying around. I straightened my hair and applied some complimentary make up.
After a once over I smiled at my appearance and walked downstairs.
I found my dad putting on his shoes.
“Where are you going?” I asked curiously.
“Taking you to the dance,” he stated. I froze.
“Oh you don’t have to do that I was going to walk,” I told him knowing that Louis was already down the street waiting for me.
“I insist,” he said smiling at me but I knew this was a trick to make sure I wasn’t up to no good. I nodded slowly and followed him out to the car. I pulled out my cell phone to text Louis.
-Change of plans my dad is driving me. I couldn’t say no. I’ll meet you there <3- I wrote to him.
“So any boys you know going?” my dad asked as we drove down the road. I shrugged.
“None that mean anything to me,” I said.
“You know I’m surprised you gave up on that Louis kid so fast. I thought he would have been a problem,” my dad commented.
“Dad that was weeks ago, he’s long gone,” I said.
“He’d better be,” my dad warned. I gave him a convincing fake smile the faded as soon as I looked out the window. It got so easy to lie to my parents that it was almost like a second nature to me but I still didn’t like having to do it.
My dad pulled up to the school. I took my seat belt off avoiding his eye.
“Thanks,” I said.
“I’ll pick you up at 11,” he said. I nodded giving him a wave and shut the door behind me. Great, I didn’t want my dad to ruin my night. I wanted to have a good time but I’d hope to go somewhere after with Louis but instead it looked like I would have to say goodnight to him sooner than I hoped.
