“Alright class I’m just going to take a quick attendance,” our teacher told us and proceeded to name off the list of students. I felt confused as he finished and put his book away because even I noticed that he hadn’t bothered to call Louis’ name.

“Um excuse me Mr Finch. I think you missed my name,” Louis said raising his arms. The teacher looked at him a little confused at first but sighed.

“Let me guess you snuck in quickly just now. That still counts as being late Mr Tomlinson,” he said and turned to the board.

“What the fuck,” Louis said annoyed under his breath.

“Um sir actually Louis’ been here the whole time. He was early even,” I spoke up for him. Mr Finche looked at me for a moment then back at Louis with a sigh.

“My mistake Mr Tomlinson but I would appreciate that since you’ve decided to grace us with your presence please reframe from being disruptive as much as possible okay,” he asked. My mouth dropped a bit, how rude.

“Sure thing Prof,” Louis said giving a clearly fake smile then shook his head as he looked down at him note pad. The teacher turned around and started his lesson. I kept my eyes on Louis and he soon looked back at me. I gave him a sympathetic smile. He shrugged with a small one back then started to take notes.

This whole changing thing wasn’t going to be easy for Louis but I appreciated the effort he was already putting in.

Louis really surprised me in that class. He took down notes and paid attention he even answered a few questions right when the teacher decided to call on his raised hand. When class was over I walked out of class with him.

“All this time I thought you didn’t come to class because you find it too hard,” I said. He smiled a bit looking down at me.

“I’m not stupid Jenn, just lazy,” he told me. I laughed shaking his head.

“Well keep it up, you might actually graduate if you put some effort from now on,” I told him. He smiled a bit.

“That kind of would be nice, I wouldn’t want to be stuck here an extra year,” he said. I smiled with a nod.

“That’s the spirit. What do you have now?” I asked curiously as we walked down the hall together.

“Science,” he said. I nodded slowly thinking about my next class. Oddly enough I had science too.

“Wait with Miss Smith?” I asked. He nodded at my comment. “I didn’t know you were in that class,” I said. He laughed a bit as we turned down the hall together.

“That’s because I haven’t gone yet,” he told me. I chuckled a bit rolling my eyes.

“You really are a bad boy,” I teased. He smirked down at me giving me a wink. We entered our class and again Louis did great. He took down notes, answered questions and really surprised me. I was proud of him I just hoped he could keep it up.

Lunch time came around and I invited Louis to come sit with Amanda and I to eat. I walked into the cafe and went over to my usual spot with Amanda.

“So someone new is going to be joining us today,” I said happily as I pulled out my lunch.

“What do you mean?” she asked curiously.

“Louis gonna sit with us,” I told her. Her face dropped and she gave me the most confused disgusted look I’ve ever seen.

“What? Why?” she asked.

“Because we’re friends and he’s a good guy Amanda so don’t be judgemental,” I warned her. She rolled her eyes.

“I swear Jenn you’re going to end up on the channel 4 news because of him one day,” she said. I rolled my eyes back.

“Oh don’t be so dramatic,” I said and took a bit of my sandwich. She sighed sipping on her water bottle.

“Hello girls is there room for one more?” Louis asked coming over and sitting across from us.

“Of course,” I said happily smiling at him. Amanda looked at him nervously and moved her purse off the table and down on the bench beside her. “So um Louis this is my best friend Amanda and Manda this is Louis,” I introduced.

“Nice to meet you,” Louis said with a polite smile.

“Yea,” she said smiling back but I could tell it was fake.

“So how was your 3rd class?” I asked curiously turning to Louis.

“Boring. I think I remember why I never went the teacher doesn’t know how to teach,” he explained. I laughed a bit.

“Yea well sometimes that’s something you just gotta deal with,” I told him. He sighed pouting out his lip.

“I know but I could easily just study on my own and do well on the tests,” he said.

“Be that as it may you still have to show up for participation marks and class assignments,” I said. He groaned putting his hands in his face.

“School is so annoying,” he said dramatically. I laughed shaking my head at him.

“Wait a minute I thought you said your dad forbid you from seeing him,” Amanda soon spoke up.

“We’re at school though, we have classes together there’s really nothing he can do anyway. I mean it’s not like he’s going to show up here and tell the principal that we can hangout,” I explained and she nodded her head with another fake smile

“I wouldn’t put it past him thought he hates me,” Louis said smiling.

“Well you haven’t been making the best impressions,” I told him. He shrugged it off with another smile.

“I’m not feeling to go. I’ll see you later Jenn,” Amanda said tossing her lunch back in her bag and standing up. I looked at her confused.

“Amanda where are you going?” I asked but she ignored me and walked away. Did she really just leave because of Louis. “Unbelievable,” I said balling my first on the table.

“It’s okay love,” Louis said putting his warm hand on top of mine. The warmth of his hand quickly calmed me down. I sighed looking at him.

“I’m sorry about her,” I said with a frown.

“Don’t worry about it, not everyone is as understanding as you,” he offered. I sighed again opening my hand. Our fingers laced together perfectly like a puzzle piece fitting into its place. I smiled a bit watching our hands together. I looked up into Louis’ eyes and found him smiling sweetly at me. I returned a small one back to him and sighed deeply looking back down at our hands.

I really didn’t know what we were. Friends yea, but anything more? He told me he liked me but maybe that only meant as a friend. I didn’t mind the idea of him liking me more than a friend. I’ve grown used to him. Even though he scared me that Friday night I managed to get over it quickly. I knew he wasn’t really like that, I knew he could be good and the worry in his voice when he thought he’d lost me melted my heart.

“Tomlinson there you are,” a voice came from behind me. I let go of his hand and turned around to see his friends that he sits with at that table in the back of the school walking up to us.
