Over the next couple of days Louis went back to his old ways. He’d show up late, disrupt and cause trouble but the only thing that I found strange was that he would smile at me every now and then sometimes throwing in a wink. What was his game? Honestly does he think I’m falling for his ‘charm’ I didn’t know what to think all I knew was that I found myself thinking about him a lot more often.
It was really bad too. Sometimes I’d be so engrossed in my thoughts about him that I’d completely ignore everyone else.
“Hello earth to Jenn,” Amanda said snapping her fingers in front of my face as we sat at the table in our cafeteria during lunch.
“What?” I asked shaking my head a bit and looked at her confused.
“What’s up with you? You’ve been really distant lately,” she said eyeing me. I shrugged.
“Nothing,” I said and smiled at her. She gave me a look that showed she didn’t believe me.
“Jenn I know you better than anyone else, what’s up? You know you can tell me anything,” she said. I sighed deeply.
“I really don’t know what to say, I don’t know what’s the matter with me,” I said resting my elbow on the table and put my head in my hand.
“Well what were you just thinking about?” she asked curiously.
“Promise you won’t laugh?” I asked nervously. She nodded her head giving me a reassuring smile. “I was thinking about, Louis,” I said, saying his name in a whisper. Her eyes went wide and I could just see the confusion written all over them.
“Why?” she burst out. I shrugged.
“I’ve had a few run ins with him and I’ve talked to him. Sometimes he acts like a jerk but other times, he’s almost sweet,” I said with a small smile forming on the corner of my lips.
“Dear god Jenn don’t tell me you like him,” she said. I shrugged looking down.
“No, I don’t think so but I find him interesting. I feel like there’s more to him than meets the eye. Anyways it doesn’t matter he’ll probably get expelled soon and none of us will ever have to put up with him,” I said crossing my arms on the table and looking out to the sea of students eating their lunch.
“You know it’s okay if you like him. I just never pictured you being into the bad boy type,” she commented looking around casually as well. I laughed a bit.
“I don’t like him Manda, I don’t want to like him, he’s a delinquent and I’m not getting mixed into that,” I said stubbornly and started wondering if I was just trying to convince myself rather than her.
“I think it’s a little too later for that,” she said. I looked at her confused. She was looking past me. I quickly followed her gaze and instantly spotted Louis walking towards the exit of the cafeteria with a few of his friends. He saw me looked at him and gave me a smirk.
I looked away with an annoyed huff.
“Why does he always smile at you?” she asked confused.
“I honestly have no idea. That boy is the most annoying person at this school,” I said.
We didn’t speak to much more but her questions got me wondering the same thing. Why did he smirk at me? Did he think I was a potential girlfriend? Was he just messing me and trying to get under my skin? I had to know or at the very least tell him to knock it off.
I stood up excusing myself from the table and told Amanda I’d see her in our last class together.
I made my way outside to the spot that I’d seen him last time I went looking for him. Sure enough on the deserted section of the back of the school he sat on a table with a few of his friends. It didn’t take long for him to notice me this time and he stood up keeping his eyes on me as his friends made a few cat call comments.
Once I knew he was walking my way I turned around so that we could talk away from his friends.
I stopped a few yards away and turned to him. He had on a normal black shirt today and long dark blue jeans with a red had on top of his head. Everything about the way he looked just screamed that he was a douche bag.
“What’s up love?” he asked smirking. I glared up at him crossing my arms.
“Knock it off,” I snapped at him. He chuckled a bit.
“Alright there relax,” he teased. I rolled my eyes. “What did you want?” he asked shoving his hands in his pockets.
“I wanted to tell you to leave me alone,” I told him. He laughed again.
“This is the first time we’ve talked in days,” he commented.
“Yea but that hasn’t stopped you from smirking at me or winking at me when we do see each other and I want you to stop,” I told him firmly.
“What’s wrong with a little smile?” he asked showing of his white teeth. I kept a hard stare on him.
“This isn’t a game okay. I want nothing to do with you and I’d appreciate it if we went back to not knowing who each other were,” I explained.
“I’ve always known who you were though and you clearly know who I am,” he pointed out.
“Whatever then let’s go back to when we weren’t on speaking terms with each other,” I said. He sighed deeply shaking his head as he pulled his hands out of his pockets. Some sort of cigarette and a lighter followed in his fingers and he put it in his mouth. He lit it up in front of me and took a long drag. I glared daggers at him.
“Relax cancer patrol it’s not an actual cigarette,” he said.
“Then what is it?” I asked. He just smirked as he took another drag and blew it out in my face. I coughed as the smell hit me. I waved the spoke out of my face. He chuckled a bit.
“Wanna try some? It’s great might help you loosen up,” he stated. I glared at him again and snatched it out of his hands.
“Are you kidding me Louis, why are you doing this?” I asked scolding him like a mother would. He laughed again.
“Because it makes me feel good,” he said rubbing his hands along his chest and arms. I rolled my eyes.
“You’re lucky I don’t report you for this,” I warned.
“You won’t though,” he stated leaning against the wall.
“What makes you sound so sure,” I asked as I put out the weed stick in my hand on the wall beside me.
“Same reason you didn’t want me to leave detention the other week,” he stated. I looked back at him. His eyes were softer and a frown played on his lips. I sighed deeply knowing he was right I could threaten all I wanted but I wouldn’t actually do it. I’m not a tattle tail.
“Louis,” I started dropping my head a bit in thought.
“Excuse me you two, what’s going on here?” a new voice came. We both looked up to see a teacher walking towards us. Shit.
