15- Send him to the loony bin
"So you're telling me your dream came true, you were hunted by some huge dog-beasts, this guy turned up to save you, he just so happens to have ears too and he brought you back here by some form of magic, then fainted?"
"Yes"
"Well that all makes sense shall we all just go back to bed."
"Really?"
"No, that makes no sense."
"Tell me about it."
"Don't worry Blaze we're going to take you to a nice padded, white room," Lara said patronizingly. Yeah trying to explain things to everyone when they had burst into my room demanding to know what had happened had not gone well. It had been just over half an hour since we arrived and Donovan had been asleep for 20 minutes now with no signs of waking. His raven hair had fallen over his face and it flicked up a little when he breathed out. It was pretty endearing really.
"Ah-arg-arr," Don moaned his face scrunc. "I feel like I've just got kicked in the head by a kangaroo."
"How would you know?" I laughed.
"Because I have been kicked in the head by a kangaroo," he said slowly looking around at the other four people string down at him. I suddenly felt very anxious, I really wanted them to like my new...friend I guess. I could do with someone like me to talk to.
"Who er they?"
"This is my family meet Jarred, Angela and Ben oh and that's Lara too," Lara drew a clawed finger over her neck staring daggers at me.
"Your biological family are alive?" He exclaimed in shock. Ouch, had to go straight for they're not your real family question huh.
"I'm adopted," I corrected.
"Ah that makes more sense."
"Excuse me, but would you mind letting us into the conversation," Ben interjected.
"Sorry this is err Danny the guy who saved me and well I don't really know much else about him, he was jut going to explain when he fainted," I said and the guy just rolled his eyes and mouthed 'Don or Donny genius.'
"Yeah sorry about that, shadow warping takes it out of me over long distances especially with passengers," he said with a small wave.
"Shadow warping?" Angela asked.
"Send them both to the loony bin if you ask me," Lara scoffed.
"Werewolf?"
"How'd you know."
"The bad attitude and smell," Donovan said with a grin.
"You two are perfect for each other," Lara retorted.
"Please can you all stop bickering. Please Danny will you explain some things for us because at the moment we are completely lost," Jarred said calmly.
"Well I guess I should start by introducing myself properly I'm Donovan Hemming and I'm a Puca. I know that makes no sense so just let me explain and don't interrupt. So Puca's and kitsune's which is what Blaze is, are similar in many ways. We both have trouble hiding our ears and tails, we both have additional powers, we can both take on multiple unusual forms, we're both born from leaking's from the spirit world into ours. A kitsune is a fox who can take human form not the other way round. They are often wise and powerful though weak in infancy. We are both specialised creatures similar to shapeshifters that I like to call Skin changers because they have lots of strange and unusual 'skins' and are kinda halfway between shapeshifters and skin walkers with a little magic thrown in." He paused looking back at us looking old and tired. "This making any sense at all?"
"Aren't skin walkers kind of evil? I really would rather not be evil," I grimaced.
"Well for starters they're not evil some are good some are bad there are skin walkers who heal a persons body while they inhabit it and others who destroy the host," he said with a shudder something close to fear bubbling up in his eyes and I too felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up at the thought. "I've had my share of close-shaves with them."
"Kitsunes two are split in half some considered good the zenko and those considered malicious and black-hearted the yako but it is very difficult to tell them apart from sight. Personally I believe it would be a terrible mistake to decide a kitsune is good or bad as they are mischievous, unpredictable and dangerous so to judge one too quickly could mean death."
"Blaze has got to be a yako he's such a wuss," Lara laughed. Something inside me snapped I was sick of her making fun of me.
I shot her an image of a dead baby wolf through my mind link accidently and she shrieked. It was a threat or warning in the shifter/werewolf community to send somebody a dead animal of their species it was seen as a sign of their weakness.
"See what I mean?" Dan or Don or whatever his name was laughed.
"What will his abilities stretch to when he's at full power." Jarred asked half with concern half excitement. Perhaps I was not such a burden after all!
"Well it's hard to say Kitsunes can live for aeons, non has ever spanned it's full lifespan as far as I know usually ending up being killed at some point and they often never stop finding new abilities. It varies from fox to fox but he could have fire abilities, lightning abilities, illusions, the power to change into impossible things like a second moon and others. He has already proven himself to posses means of mind communication one of the most common but also most varied power amongst his kind." He observed his eyes never wavering from me as he spoke.
"How do you know so much about Kitsunes?" Angela asked suspiciously.
"I may look young in body but ageing works in strange and mysterious ways for skin changers, I've had plenty of time to find out things about my kind and my closer cousins," he said with a reassuring tone that made me smile he'd have her wrapped around his finger in no time.
"Do you have powers?" Ben babbled eagerly.
"Well I've been a true changer meaning I shifted 5 years ago just one year younger than Blaze so I've not had much time to refine them but I can change into other animals do some very pathetic attempts at hypnosis, control water a little and speak a lot of languages just simple stuff so far," he answered modestly but Ben's eyes lit up.
"Go on give us a show," I chuckled seeing Ben's puppy dog eyes.
He gave Angela a questioning look and she dipped her head in surprised delight to have such a polite guest (told you) so he proceeded to the sink and filled a glass with water. He set it down on the ground staring intently. The water rose smoothly out of the glass and into the air spelling out Ben in neat letters making him grin. Then with a twinkle in his eyes he threw the water down catching it before it hit the ground and making it slither in a long line bringing the serpent to life. It wormed its way around each of us tapping me on the arm drawing me to pet it, then hissing like high pressured water out of a tap at Lara. Deeming us impressed he summoned the water back and it obeyed obediently falling into the glass.
"Wow," Ben chirped.
"That about sums it up," I chuckled.
A/N are your brains melted. Sorry for the information overload! What do you think to Donovan BTW he's meant to be likeable but mysterious. More info will come later but I feel any more will be fatal so I'd like a more fun next chapter if you don't mind
