Episode/Chapter 6 - Hawks or Human? Part 4

"This is it...my big break..." Scandal Savage whispered to herself as she watched the cave from a distance. She saw the hangar door open, and she crouched down lower. She peeked back out to see Nightwing and Kid Flash, "perfect..." she said...until she spotted Max, "what's she doing here?! Please don't tell me she's not working with them..." Scandal hoped.

"So, what do you need us to do?" Max asked.

"Just lure her in. That's it. She's mainly here because she wants to get to us. She won't hurt you six, though." Nightwing answered.

"So, I just stand here?" Max asked.

"No need. I'm already here." Scandal called out as she flew up to the three. Kid Flash and Max immediately stood in fighting positions and Nightwing got out his dual batons.

"What do you think you're doing here, Scandal?!" Kid Flash demanded.

"Why, only to negotiate." Scandal shrugged, "you leave my father alone and forget anything you've learned about him and the Light."

"And why should we do that?" Nightwing asked.

"Because I love my father, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get some pesky stinkbugs out of his hair. Even if it means wiping them out completely." Scandal answered as she took out a gun.

"Scandal..." Kid Flash murmured.

"Scandal." Max gulped, "you don't want to do this." Max said as she started to think, then realized something, "your father doesn't love you. You know that, right?"

Silence.

"What are you saying?" Nightwing asked.

"Your father is evil." Max said, "he only shows he loves you to keep you with him. Now that you have wings, he's willing to risk your life to kill us." Max said, and Nightwing and Kid Flash gaped at her.

"You're lying!! He would never do that!!!" Scandal shrieked.

"Well, it's only the truth." Max shrugged, "But hey, most of us can't handle the truth. But you get over it, really."

"Shut up!!" Scandal screeched and pointed the gun at Max...and pulled the trigger.

"KID!!!" Nightwing yelled, and Kid Flash ran in. At his speed, he ran and shoved Max out of the way before the bullet could bust her brains.

"Scandal!! You're not a killer!!" Kid Flash yelled.

"You saved my life..." Scandal sobbed, "and now, you're talking lies about my father!!"

"It's the truth, Scandal, and I'm sorry..." Max apologized, "but we can help you. Put down the gun and join us."

"Please, Scandal." Nightwing pleaded.

"Fighting's the only way out of this, then, isn't it?" Scandal asked and threw the gun to the side, taking a fighting stance.

"Oh, please, woman...you wanna fight against the Kid Flash?" Kid Flash asked, then scoffed, "I 'died', and now I'm back."

"That doesn't prove anything!!" Scandal shrieked. Now she was just annoyed and mad.

"Steam down, Scandal." Nightwing said, "just either leave peacefully or join the team."
