Robin groaned and held his head, chains rattling as he moved his limbs. He squinted and looked around. Jet was sitting next to him, wide awake.
"Hey, you're awake." Jet said as Robin sat up slowly.
"No duh." Robin looked around in search of an escape from their cell, "crap. We need a way out."
"Already thought of that while you were out. Hope you didn't mind me using your little pocket knife." Jet chuckled nervously as soon as Robin shot a death glare at him.
"You went through my utility belt?!" Robin shouted.
"Whoa, whoa, shh...keep your voice down!" Jet shushed Robin.
"Ugh, fine...I guess you did need it to create an escape." Robin sighed as he crossed his arms and leaned back, letting Jet's plan sink in as Jet explained everything to him. He peeked back at the bars of their cell every so often, then pointed to the ceiling, Robin nodding in understanding. Suddenly, they heard footsteps and Ra's Al Ghul himself walked in.
"Damian, my grandson...I see you brought a friend." Ra's said as if this were a normal grandfather-grandson conversation.
"Why are we in this cell, Grandfather? I command you release us!" Robin shouted.
"Well, we need to ask you two a few questions before we could do that." Ra's said as he gestured behind him, and the mysterious figure in black with a red x on his chest and mask walked in.
"Turn in the Martian." The figure said.
"Who?" Robin asked.
"Miss Martian?" Jet asked.
"Yes. We need you to bring her in, and we'll peacefully walk away from you two and the entire team." Ra's said.
"We can't let you do that..." Robin growled.
"Why do you need her?!" Jet demanded.
"Did your team leader not tell you? Oh what a disappointment he is..." Ra's shook his head and the figure just snickered.
"My powers require something that the Martian has." The figure explained.
"Well, if what you're looking for is for your powers, then I'm afraid we can't help you." Robin crossed his arms.
"Wrong answer." The figure said as he held out his hand and sprayed some red substance all over Robin's legs, attaching him to the ground.
"What the heck?!" Robin rose an eyebrow, "you can not be serious, Grandfather..."
"Enough with this nonsense!!" Ra's Al Ghul yelled.
"Jet....get outta here. I'll hold off these clowns..." Robin said so softly, that only Jet was able to hear him, if it weren't for his sharp and enhanced hearing.
"But..." Jet replied just as softly.
"Take it, and get out NOW." Robin said as he held the bag of red goop a little bit more visible to Jet. In a flash, Jet flew forward, grabbed the bag, and flew straight out through the ceiling.
"What the...don't let him escape!!!" Ra's Al Ghul commanded. The League of Shadows warriors ran outside, following Jet as he flew over the grove of trees. Jet looked back at the building he just escaped, then turned on his comm.
"Okay, Robin, you'd better get out of there." Jet said.
"Don't worry, I already am." Robin said, and Jet gasped. He looked below him and saw Robin riding his motorcycle.
"But..."
"Grandfather was paying more attention to you, and my ninja skills took care of the rest. Piece of cake." Robin shrugged as he rode faster, tearing off limbs from trees in the process and throwing them at ninja that followed, "now, let's get back to the cave. We need to get that sample tested." Jet listened to Robin, then looked at the bag of red liquid that felt like silly putty when he hit it, but liquid when he held it still in the palm of his hand.
"So, what is this stuff?" Jet asked.
"Exactly why we're bringing it back to the cave." Robin answered.
"But won't you get in trouble for leaving without permission?"
"Nah. Not if what I did helped the team." Robin shrugged, "besides, the others do it all the time."
"Oh, well, when you put it that way..." Jet said, "but who was that red guy?"
"I've heard of him before. Myths. Never thought he was real..." Robin said.
"Who is it?!"
"I...don't know." Robin answered.
"Why can't you say?! That's really important, you know!" Jet said.
"I know, but...you have no idea what this guy could do. He can track our every move if he really needed to, he can kill you with one swipe. I'm not sure his real true identity, but I do know that this guy is bad news."
"If he's so bad, then why can't you tell us who he is?!" Jet demanded, but this time, Robin didn't answer.
"I know who he is, and if I tell you anything about him, even his superhero name, you'll read more into it." Robin said, "I made a vow that I wouldn't tell anyone, and he told me why he was doing this. You'd be scarred for life if I told you anything about him. That's just your job." Jet looked down at Robin. He sighed,
"Fine." Jet said as they approached the city, where they went into the nearest alley. They found a Zeta tube extension and zeta'd back to the cave.
"Where have you two been?!" Nightwing said as the two boys walked through the mission briefing room.
"Paid a family member a visit." Robin answered, "and no need to thank us." Robin smirked as he tossed the bag over to Nightwing. He caught the bag and sent a quick final glare to Robin. He turned away from him and looked at the red substance.
"What is this?"
"You should've come up with the idea to take a sample from those red x's, see what they're made of." Robin said.
"Huh...good work. But next time, tell us about it. You could've gotten caught and needed backup." Nightwing said.
"Oh please. We didn't need backup. We were able to manage all on our own." Robin said.
"Fine." Nightwing said, "dismissed, then." Jet and Robin looked at each other and started to head out. Jet continued walking, but before Robin could leave, Nightwing held out his arm and stopped him. He leaned down to his level,
"you'd better not be doing anything reckless. You do realize Bruce would have my head if he finds out about what happened with you." Nightwing warned him, his voice low.
"Don't worry. Father won't hear a thing about this. Trust me." Robin said as he stepped away from Nightwing and walked away.

"What did I tell you about exposing too much?!" The same black and red figure yelled at Robin in an alley across the country.
"Relax. I didn't tell them anything at all. Just the fact that I can't tell them your name. And that was only to Jet, even. Not Nightwing." Robin crossed his arms, "but were you serious about that whole Martian thing?"
"Would I have said that if I wasn't?" The figure asked.
"True." Robin nodded, "can't help you as much anymore, buddy. So what are you going to do now?" Robin asked. He saw the figure clench his fist and could almost hear his knuckles crack. The figure growled as he jumped up into the sky and started flickering, as if his power was already starting to wear off,
"Looks like they're gonna have to see what Red X can really do." And with that, Red X disappeared.
