"Barbara..." Miss Martian gasped the next day when Nightwing walked alongside Barbara, who wheeled in on her wheelchair.
"What happened?" Jet asked.
"Um... I was shot... By Joker..." Barbara swallowed hard, and Nightwing put his hand on her shoulder.
"That jerk..." Wonder Girl clenched her fists.
"So what are you going to do?" Impulse asked, "you know... About Batgirl?"
"I...don't think I can be Batgirl anymore..." Barbara looked at her lifeless feet, "but there is someone who can carry on the Batgirl legacy until...well, until I get my legs back, which probably won't be anytime soon."
"Really?" Batgirl asked.
"Mm-hmm..." Barbara smiled and nodded.
"Thank you so much..." Batgirl whispered and gave her a hug.
"But now that you can't be Batgirl anymore, what can you do on the team now?" Miss Martian asked.
"Well, that's why I called in Oracle." Barbara turned to Bette, who looked at Barbara in shock.
"Wait, I think I know where this is going..." Impulse said.
"Bette, you've done great work here." Nightwing said, "but I think that you can do just as much work in the field rather than behind a screen."
"So you mean, going out and fighting?" Bette asked.
"And Barbara will take your place." Nightwing nodded.
"What's her alias going to be?" Impulse asked.
"Well, that's up to her to decide." Nightwing said.
"I'd like to stay with Oracle though. I've always liked that name." Barbara said.
"Okay. That's all we needed to discuss. Meeting adjourned." Nightwing announced, and everyone separated to go their separate ways.
"I don't know if I can do this, Dick..." Barbara sighed.
"Of course you can. You're strong and determined. We can get through this together." Nightwing replied.
"I don't know if I can do....this...."
"Wait, what are you saying?"
"I'm saying that you deserve someone more than just a girl in a wheelchair..." Barbara said, looking down at her legs.
"Barbara. Hey, look at me." Nightwing said as he knelt down in front of her, holding her face and turning her to look at him. Her tear-filled eyes met his, "I'm never leaving you. No matter what. And you can't do anything to make me do otherwise."
"But....I can't do anything for you now....I'm useless."
"Don't think like that. You're smarter than anyone I've ever met, and without you, we wouldn't be able to get very far." Nightwing explained, "I love you, Barbara Gordon. I love you so much... And if that bullet had killed you, I have no idea what I would do with myself."
Barbara tried to smile, but when she did, she just broke down and started crying,
"I'm so sorry...."
"Don't beat yourself up... I'm here for you, okay? And everyone else too. You won't go through this alone. They're...we're all here... I'm here... And we all love you. I love you." Nightwing wiped her tears away as she nodded, then he hugged her tight and kissed her.

Bette turned around and leaned against the wall. She witnessed Barbara's attempt to break up with Dick, just because she felt she wasn't perfect enough for him. Bette sighed and walked off to her room in the cave, and when she walked in, she shut the door behind her and went straight to her closet. She opened it, dug deep into the back of her mess, yanked out the electrified bolas she kept in there.
"There you are..." Bette smirked as she dusted them off. They were her favorite and most experienced weapon of choice. She swung them around a few times and sent a few electric pulses through it.
"I guess you still work." Bette said as she set them to the side. Then she pulled out a pair of yellow and red goggles. She slipped them on and turned on a switch to its lowest option, and a light turned on on the goggles. It was bright, and she was excited to see how bright they could really go. But she didn't want to blind herself, so she decided to wait until she went on an actual mission. Then she needed to choose an outfit. She lifted a box from out of the back of her closet, opened it, and pulled out a yellow and red outfit.
"It was big when I first got it...I wonder if it will fit this time..." Bette said as she started to put it on. She picked up her electrified bolas, stood in front of the mirror, and smiled to herself, "perfect...Flamebird it is."

"Are you people insane?!?!" Red X yelled at the screens.
"You did not say any obligations to Barbara Gordon. We made Dick Grayson miserable through her." Vandal Savage said.
"I suggested that Red Robin kid, didn't I?! Why did you go after her?!?!"
"Why? Do you happen to have a connection with her?" Lex Luthor asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I specifically told you to go after Red Robin." Red X said, his voice low, ignoring Luthor's question.
"And we decided amongst ourselves that the Batgirl dead would have more of an impact than having the Red Robin dead." Queen Bee explained.
"YOU PEOPLE DON'T GET IT!!!" Red X yelled, then groaned, "I'll talk later. Right now, I have business..." Red X said and pressed a button on his glove, cutting the communication. He checked his glove and saw that the gauge of red Sinothium in a little tube was starting to run out, and it was less than a fourth full. He started breathing heavily in anger, then he ripped his mask off and chucked it at the wall, "I...Need...That....Sinothium....NOW."
Sorry for updating really slowly....But hey, it's done. Barbara's now Oracle, Bette's now Flamebird (yay!), Dick and Barbara are still dating! (almost got you there, Zoe_so_fancy, didn't I? XD)
