Dammit

We waited as the crowds filled the corridors. I placed my head on Caleb's shoulder and we waited until they'd all gone. I opened my eyes and put my ear to the wooden paneling that we were sat on and scanned the school by ear. Faint heartbeats remained at the far side of the school, but only Caleb's could be heard close by.

We dropped from the ceiling and headed towards the science department. "So if you were your psycho vampire brother, where would you kidnap someone and hide them in a school?" Caleb just looked blank as we walked past classroom 42B. I scanned the room and took in a deep breath. "Well apparently in a science room." I burst open the door only to hear Caleb coughing in response of the cloud of gas that came bursting out.

"It smells like potassium nitrate. That's toxic." I pulled Caleb out of the heavy fire doors which closed behind him and made a beeline for the fume cupboard which Stef was sitting inside, he had managed to switch on the oxygen and close the protective glass down. My eyes and skin started to burn as I stood there making sure he was okay.

Ignoring the burn of the chemicals I ran to the far side of the room and threw open the windows. Then began to search for the source. Sitting behind the desk was a large rack of bubbling test tubes, in them was a frothy brown mixture. Under the desk was a large white ball that almost resembled a hazmat suit.

I grabbed the suit and checked it for holes before bringing it over to Stef. As I handed it over through the small hole at the bottom I caught a glimpse of my hand. My skin was starting to peel as I was standing directly in the centre of the chemical cloud. Stef quickly slipped into the suit and opened the fume cupboard.

We made a break for the door as I felt my skin begin to melt when another hazmat suit appeared in front of us. It concealed his face more than Stef's apart from his eyes, which were a piercing colour of blue. I took up defense position, but much to my surprise he simply opened the door for me. I grabbed Stef's arm and we ran through it together.

We burst past the heavy door and activated the fire alarm. I was still badly burnt from the chemicals and, for some unknown reason, I wasn't healing. "Kathy? Kathy?!" I fell onto a bench beside the exit. My eyes were dried and I could see tiny scrapes on my eyes. I felt like I was looking through a broken bottle. Stef was hovering as he didn't know what to do, he turned to Caleb. "Fix her! I don't care how, just fix her!" Caleb sighed as he whispered. "The only way you'll heal is if you feed, there's a blood bag here but there isn't time to distract him."

I nodded. "Okay then, give it here." Caleb reached into the back pack and produced the blood bag. Stef looked confused as I took the blood. "Wh-what are you doing with that? We need to get her to a hospital..." I tore open the top of the bag and dug in, his eyes going wide as I pulled my mouth out for a breath, showing my fangs.

The blood was sweeter than the animal blood. I drank the whole bag, an entire pint. After I made sure to dispose the blood bag in the bin. I kept my eyes on Caleb while I composed myself before looking at Stef, his face remained blank, but his eyes were frightened. I knew that was because of me. "We need to leave, we can talk later." I took Caleb's hand as we sprinted for the door.
