Caleb leaned against the wall beside the front door as Stef and I sat on the couch. "So when were you...?" "When was I turned? A few months ago, I've managed to hide it so far by feeding on animals in the woods behind the house or an occasional blood bag, but some things have changed and now it isn't safe here." Stef sat forward so he could see Caleb around the corner.

"I think I figured that out, but what are you then?" I extended my fangs. "What do you think?" He nodded slowly. "So who turned you?" I glanced at Caleb and shook my head. "I don't know, but it's the same guy who turned Caleb's brother. Let's just say that neither of us are keen on meeting him anytime soon."

Stef questioned me into the early hours of the morning, while Caleb listened to some and raided the kitchen for food. Coming close to four in the morning Stef started to yawn. "Time for bed, can we continue tomorrow?" Stef ran into the kitchen and came back out with a knife; he made a small cut on his hand and watched my face.

My fangs slotted down into place but I was controlling myself well enough to stay on the couch. "Can I try something else?" I nodded slowly. He approached me before carefully sitting next to me and quickly stabbing my torso with the knife. "OW! Stef, what the hell?!"

I removed the knife and pressed my hand onto the wound. "You need blood to heal right?" I nodded and he grabbed another blood bag from the back pack. With a nod from him and Caleb on stand by, just in case, I began to drink. When it was done Stef looked down at my stomach. "Wow. That's completely healed." I gave Caleb a look that indicated 'hey, I think he's cool with me being a vampire'.

"So what are we still doing here?" We were still working on a plan of action. Caleb knew it better than I did. "We're hiding here for tonight and then moving on in the morning to a safe location out of town." Stef had entered his sassy nature. "So we're running from hazmat freak and his bitch." I looked at Caleb before slowly nodding. "In a sentence, yeah, but we still only know he wants me. I'm not sure about you two so if you want out, say now." No one even blinked.

We crashed in Stef's room. As expected it looked like something belonging to a teenage boy. Dirty clothes piled in the hamper, food boxes and coke cans lay on the floor and desk, and the bed was unmade. "Sorry about the mess. Kathy, do you want to take the bed?" "Naw I'm fine. One of you can take it." I hadn't slept in a while but because of the blood I still felt fine.

It felt easiest for me not to be in the room so I sat out on the roof, and watched the moon as it made its way across the curve in the sky. It looked like it was almost full, another day or two. "Kathy? What are you doing up there?" Caleb had his head poking out of the window below; his hair was ruffled like he had been rolling in his sleep.

"Just thinking. Come on up." He paused before opening the window fully and climbing onto the roof. "How do you not fall off here?" He held his arms out and walked up the slant until he reached me. "Vamp balance? I don't know." He rolled his eyes and gently nudged me as he sat down. "Caleb, do you think we can work? I mean as a couple." He stared up at the moon. "I think we can, yeah. But there's something I'd really like to do."

With a wink he leaned forward and started to kiss me. It was fast and urgent, like it was going somewhere else, and sure enough it was. It wasn't like I thought my first time would be, there were no titanic streaming windows with hands pressed against it. No romantic music playing in the background. No destroyed headboards after, but it was amazing.
