Dead air

"Come on, I just need two minutes." I rolled my eyes. "Fine, what do you want?" I gave Caleb an apologetic look as I threw my legs over to the side of the car and jumped off. "Where are you? I've searched the whole school and can't find you." "That's because I'm not at school." I heard his sigh over the phone. "Kathy, what's going on with you?" "Nothing, and your two minutes are almost up." Almost immediately after I stopped talking he began to speak.

"What are you going to do about your new boyfriend?" His tone was full of jealousy. "Nothing and neither will you. He's a good guy and he doesn't deserve that." "Why shouldn't I tell the world that there is a real angel at our high school?" I glanced over at Caleb, who was still lying across the hood of his car. "Because... He's not the only good guy I know. And because no one would believe you."

There was a slight pause before a mumbled 'fine, bye' and the line went dead. I replaced my phone in my pocket and walked back to the car, Caleb sat up on the hood. "Your place?"

Caleb closed the door, leaving me sitting on the sofa watching some sitcom. The past few hours had been a rush of TV and making out. I lay down and stretched my legs out, thinking about what had just happened. My phone buzzed on my desk upstairs. Using my vampire speed I ran upstairs and grabbed the mobile, on my way back the stairs seemed to take too long so I threw my legs over the railing and fell to the ground.

I flopped back onto the sofa and checked the number of the text with the ones from my contacts list, no match. Confused, looked at the text with a severe amount of skepticism. 'Hey babe. I'll come back soon, just for you.' I rolled my eyes and set the phone down on the coffee table. 'Sure, because that's true, it's probably just a prank.' I told myself as I threw my arm over my eyes and started to dream.
