I woke alone, on the cold tile floor. The fire had long burnt out, there was no sign of Caleb or Stef, and their scents were at least two hours old. Fear and paranoia over took my brain as I scrambled to my feet and sprinted out the door.

Outside was bright and clear, the sun was splitting through the trees as the light breeze moved them. A laugh came from the couth. My eyes shot to the direction of it, Caleb and Stef came out of the trees carrying dark gray pieces of wood. They spotted the panic and relief on my face and hurried over.

"Kathy? What's wrong?" I leant against the wall for a few seconds to centre myself before hitting them lightly on the arm. "Don't do that again!" They both held their arms. "Ow! What happened?" "Don't leave without telling me. I could have a heart atta... I was panicking!" A small smile appeared on Caleb's face before he walked up to me and quickly kissed me. "Sorry, sweetheart, I'll tell you next time."

The guys had explained that the wood was from the cabin where we had me Gabriel. "I'm telling you, Elijah's scent was all over the ground surrounding it." The sun was moving over to the centre of the sky as we packed to move out. "But why would he burn it down? And how would he have known?"

"Angles leave a sort of residue when they use their powers; most people call it their grace. He maybe smelt it, or followed us? Anyone of those reasons really." Serious Caleb was here. He started pacing. "Kathy isn't cloaked from him, so he can still pick up her scent, but not ours. He could be trying to find her for Jensen."

I shook my head. "I don't think so. I may have seen him on a roof near Stef's house, before we went for the cloaking, he looked almost, well, envious?" Both their jaws dropped. "You saw Elijah. Why didn't you tell me?" "Because I knew you'd react like-" "Like what?" He cut me off. "Like this!"

He took a minute to breathe, placing his hands on his head and looking towards the sky. "Okay. I'm sorry, you were right not to tell me, but next time, please do." I smiled and nodded. "So where are we going now?"
