"Sorry, could you run that by the rest of us again?" Stef was sitting on the edge of the bath with a confused look fixed onto his face. "Kathy, do you understand this?" I quickly nodded to Caleb and he turned to Stef. "Most likely what bit you last night was a werewolf." He got up off the bath and wandered into his bedroom. "Yeah, that's the part I was getting confused at. How could I be a werewolf, and how did neither of you hear anything last nigh- oh yeah. You guys were busy."
I felt my cheeks burn bright red in response to his words. "So. It's none of your business what we do." Caleb and Stef were at each other's throats. "On my roof, then its my business, with my ex girlfriend." I threw my hands between them and, with a little too much force, pushed them to opposite sides of the room. "For god's sake, stop acting like children." I turned to Stef. "I thought you were over this. Now stop it. Both of you." Stef continued to slump in the corner and mope, whereas Caleb got up and pulled me away.
"We may have made too much noise there, and the crashing of you throwing us, ow by the way, may have caused some neighbors to call the police. We should maybe get moving." I glanced around the corner at Stef. "We should leave him here, he's a liability now while he's like this." Caleb's face was the picture of confliction. "What is it Caleb?"
"It may be better to take him with us. He is turning, I can feel it. And if he turns in a populated area then he could really hurt or kill people. Do you want that on his conscious?" I shook my head and went back into his bedroom to see Stef picking himself up with a shameful look. "Sorry, I don't know what happened. I just got really angry." "That would be one of the side effects of you turning. You're going to feel anger a lot more than you used to."
Caleb and I headed up our little walking party as we ventured into the woods behind Stef's house. Before we were past the tree line I got a shiver down my spine, as if someone was watching us. I did a brief scan of the surroundings, on the roof of a house a few doors down from where we were, stood a figure. With my vamp sight I focused on his face, it was Elijah. His face was blank but he put one finger up to his mouth and motioned for me to go into the trees. I snapped my eyes forward again and ran ahead.
"I'll scout, okay?" The guys hung back while I danced ahead. This was just taking me back to the days when I was an army cadet, patrolling around the car park of the school we were set up in. I sniffed the air in case anyone was around. Smelt clear, besides the smell of deer, but I wasn't thirsty at the moment. I ran back to regroup. "I don't think we should travel at night." The sun was setting behind me, casting long shadows out in front of us. For a brief second I thought I saw one from Elijah, but it disappeared seconds later.
"I agree, where do you want to set up camp?" Caleb had stepped forward and wove his fingers through mine. A small growl from Stef was met with a commanding one from myself, shocking even me. "How about we set up here, and Stef sets up over there a bit, so we aren't too close together for Elijah or Jensen to find us too close together." Stef reluctantly nodded and walked slowly off.
"You know if he thinks you hate him then he's going to get further from his humanity. He needs a pack, even if they aren't wolves it doesn't matter." Caleb was right, I was being stubborn because I thought he was over all this crap with Caleb and me. It was deeply frustrating. "Okay, I'll take first watch if you want to go to sleep for a bit. If I need to I'll get a deer." He nodded and headed into the make shift tent he had been setting up.
The treetops were quiet, just a few birds chirping, there was no sign of Elijah. What had he been doing on that roof? Why didn't he come after us into the woods? Maybe he doesn't agree with our maker, who knows.
I looked down, Caleb had gone a little further into the trees to try and make contact with Gabriel, to see if he would help hide up. He must've been in the scouts at one point, the tent he had set up was better than most can make with an actual tent, using large sticks as a roof and lining it with bigger leaves.
On the other side of our travel party Stef was lying on his back under a not as impressive shelter. A loud snore came from his sleep, causing the nearby birds to squawk and flee. I scanned the tree line as far as I could see but nothing was there. I hopped across the ground and landed next to Stef.
Thanks to my heightened senses I was able to get myself into a good position to land on my feet, just inches from Stef's head, causing his to wake with a loud growl. "What the hell? You could've killed me." I rolled my eyes. "Oh come on, who's the werewolf here?" I shot at him. "And who's the vampire?" He retorted.
Glares were exchanged before Caleb returned to us. "No fighting, I have good news. Gabriel will help us hide from Jensen and Elijah." He looked at me with a hopeful expression, but paused when he noticed my hesitation. "What's wrong, this is good." "I don't think I should hide, not from Elijah anyway. But hiding you both from both of them would be good."
