On our side?

I drove for a few hours before I noticed the red light indicating low fuel. Somehow attempting to force myself to concentrate on driving made me thirsty, really fast. Feeding would be non-optional soon. Caleb's quiet snores subsided as he reached for my hand in his sleep; his face was full of innocence as an angel's face should be.

When he woke we stopped in a small town to refuel, and for Caleb to get some food from the boot. I took off along the roofs as it was drawing close to midnight again. I know I should be drinking animal blood, to keep myself from being a human blood addict, but after the guy who was after Caleb my appetite needed something more human.

Towns weren't like the cities where if you were desperate for a snack homeless people laid in alleys, but in a small town like this it was mostly families. The entire town was getting quieter as time passed by. The sickly sweet smell of alcohol guided me to the local bar where six very drunk men stumbled out. "Time to tie the knot soon. Last night free!"

They howled and slapped each other's backs. Landing just down the street I unzipped my hoodies to reveal the low cut tank top underneath. Confidence seemed to be the key as I stuck my chest out and walked past them. Whistles and cat-calls filled the quiet street as one of them grabbed my ass; I deflected his hand before pushing him up against the wall and holding him there by the throat.

Turning to the rest of them I exposed my fangs, sending them running for the hills. The man struggled under my grip around his neck. "Please lady; I'm getting married tomorrow morning. I'm on my stag do." His words seemed to have no effect on me as I tilted his head to the side and dug in.

He yelped and cried for the two minutes I was feeding on him for. When I finished he made a break for it down the street. "He's drunk, no one will believe him." I searched the darkened streets and rooftops only to turn around and see Elijah standing behind me.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were staying with Jensen." He smirked. "You should have gotten your ass to safety. I'm here for Jensen, he wants me to find you and kidnap my baby bro. Since you killed the last guy he hired to do it. Where is he?"

He sniffed the air as the sound of a car drove up. Caleb rolled down the window. "Ready to go? Elijah? What are you doing here?" I paused, before I could do anything Elijah's face went blank and he lunged for the car door.

"What are you doing?" Caleb hit the locks as fast as he could, but Elijah was already in the car and shoved him over to the passenger seat. I grabbed the door handle at the same second as Elijah hit the accelerator causing the car to drag me along.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I sent my fist flying through the open window. "I'm sorry. I swear I wouldn't do this on purpose. It's Jensen. He's using his authority as my maker to get Caleb. I've been told not to hurt you, but to get him no matter what."

I managed to get a hold on the roof of the car and pull myself over to the other side. Elijah looked over with an apologetic look before he grabbed Caleb and veered over to the footpath, scraping the car along the wall of a building. I could feel the skin on my back being ripped off as I was clinging onto the car in my best attempt to keep Caleb from Jensen. A scream escaped my lips as I was forced to let go of the car, I rolled along the road before coming to a stop in a pool of my blood, after whacking my head off the ground and breaking my neck.
