Chapter Thirty-Three
We’ve been in the air for a couple hours now. I wonder how much longer there is until we land. And then it hits me.
“Aaron, where are we even going?” I question him. A puzzled expression crosses his face.
“Now that, Lia, is very good question…” He says and I laugh.
We really are crazy people; sneaking into airplanes and not even knowing where we are going. “Well I guess we will out when we land.” I state. Suddenly, I hear a short beeping sound. I look up to see the seat belt sign illuminate.
The plane intercom goes on. “Hello, passengers. This is your pilot speaking. We are just flying into some clouds and there is going to be a bit of turbulence. Please stay in your seats until the seatbelt signs are turned off.” The plane begins to shake a small amount. “Ugh. I hate turbulence.” I tell Aaron. “So do I, but it will be over as soon as you-“ The plane shakes widely and begins to drop. A few screams are heard. I turn toward Aaron, terrified. “Everyone! Calm down! Please! It will be alright! I want you to take your life jackets from under you seats and put them on, okay?” a flight attendant yells across the plane. Like many others, I frantically look under my seat and pull out my life jacket. Aaron does the same. We put on the neon yellow vest and begin to blow in it. Aaron and I scan the plan for the nearest exit. It is two rows away from us. I secure my belt on even tighter. A few tears escape from my eyes. I can’t die, not now. If I die, it will only mean that Kratos won. I do not want that to happen. I can’t let that happen. The plane shakes extremely hard. Why did I decide to sit in the back, the part of the plane that feels the most turbulence? It is all happening so fast. I stare out the small window on my side of the plane. I see a large body of water of the color turquoise. It comes closer and closer. We fall faster and faster. The sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach does not escape me. Each second that passes by could be hours. My ears block out all the screams and cries around me from other passengers. I can’t seem to hear anything. Perhaps I am too shocked. Maybe it because of how fast we are falling from the sky. I keep on watching the water get closer and closer. My thoughts pound in my head. I tell myself I am not afraid. I can survive this. The plane is about to hit the water. I close my eyes. A strong force is felt as the plane hits the water. It is a hard fall. My body bumps the edges of my seat and my head hits the window. I blink my eyes, and it all comes back to me. I look toward Aaron and see that he is yelling at me to get up. Although my legs feel like jelly, I quickly unbuckle my seat belt and run toward the exit. Aaron and I squeeze past the other passengers desperately trying to escape the plane. We finally reach the edge of the plane. We see a yellow slide and go down it. Aaron and I splash into the frigid water. I swim around the water, anxiously looking for Aaron. Stressing out to much, I see him right beside me. I swim closer and hang on to him. I try to closely observe our surroundings. The plane is nearby us and is still somewhat on the surface of the water. Many passengers worriedly are looking for the rest of their family members that were aboard the flight. It seems like we are in a sea port because ships are close by ahead.
'“Aaron, if the ambulance comes, it will take us to the hospital. The doctors will ask us too many questions that we won’t be able to answer. We have to go to that city without these people.” I say as I point at a distant piece of land that most likely is a city populated by hundreds of people. Aaron looks at me.
“At the count of three, okay?” he whispers softly.
“1”
“2”
“3”
We slowly put our heads under the surface of the water. I open my eyes to look for Aaron. They burn from the dirty water as I see the figure of Aaron swim under the water. I quickly follow him but do not kick the water too hard. I do not want to make too much noise to attract attention from the passengers of the crashed plane. I swim quickly to catch up to him. I grab on to his hand when I can finally reach him. He turns to me and then motions his head up to the surface. I nod. I rise up to the surface and take a gulp of air. Next to me, I see Aaron. Behind me, I see the panicking passengers and the flight attendants trying to calm them down. “We have to board a ship. It’s our best way to escape.” Aaron tells me while trying to fill his voice with assurance. Still gasping for air, I look around for any ships. I see one not to far away. It may take at least 15 minutes to swim to. I point to Aaron and explain to him how we will have to get there. Every two minutes or so, we will have to rise up to the surface of the water for air. After I have fully explained everything and making him assure me that he will stay right by me, we begin to swim away towards the ship
