Chapter Twenty Two

"I think...I think they are on to us...." I say, panting. We have been running. Why do we always seem to try to be escaping someone nowadays? Running, for what seemed like forever, we finally stopped. Now we are in front of some small shop with a name that cannot be read be neither Aaron or I because it is in German. The shop is next to an ally. We are no longer in the exiting part of town.

"You think so?" Aaron replies, sarcasm dripping out of his words.

I roll my eyes.

"Now what? And how do we know for sure that that car was following us?" I question.

"Hmmm... I don't know. Maybe its because the car followed us all the way until we ran into the woods where there were no roads?"

I sigh. He has a point

"Oh" is all I can reply to him

He chuckles softly.

The already dark night sky turns even darker. Suddenly, it starts to drizzle outside. Aaron suggests that we enter the small shop and stay inside until we can figure out what to do and where to go next. I think about it and come to the conclusion that his idea is a smart one.

Once inside the shop, I see many antiques. Small little porcelain golden rimmed teacups, velvet lampshades, and hand carved furniture.

"This place is.....interesting" Aaron states.

"Yeah, its pretty cool." I reply. I pick up the velvet lamp shade and place it on Aaron's head. The maroon colored tassels at the rim of the lampshade hang over his eyes. I chuckle at the sight.

"Thanks." He replies, sarcastically.

"Welcome to the store!" A voice says, coming out of nowhere. Our smiles disappear and Aaron and I instantly spin around to see who spoke.

When we see the owner of the voice, we instantly relax. In front of us is an elderly woman sitting at the cash register. There is a smile spread across her face.

"Everything is half off! Today, and today only!" She says, the sound of cheer sprinkling from her voice. Aaron and I politely nod and smile at the elderly lady.

Aaron and I continue to walk around to cute little antique shop, examining each object and making silly jokes about them.

"Is this supposed to be a doll?"

"I think my great, great, great, great, grandma had one of these"

"This looks like it belongs to Queen Elizabeth the 1st"

Aaron picks up a small jewelry box  when something behind me catches his eye.I turn around to see what it is.

In a small golden framed mirror at the close by corner of the store, I see a man approaching. He is darkly dressed and his face is covered by the shadow of his wide brimmed hat.. Aaron and I don't make a sound and silently observe the man. Suddenly, we hear the old lady's voice.

"Wel-"

And then the sound of a bullet is heard. A loud thump is heard when something heavy falls to the floor.

Aaron looks me in the ear and slowly whispers in my ear,

"We need to get out of here"
