Chapter 1

The five teenage girls approached the start of the forest. It was midnight, and they were out past their curfew. They had sneaked out of Ella's house. They had each separately escaped out through Ella's bedroom window and met up at the corner. The five girls walked into the forest. Lia was blindfolded. The other for girls giggled, while attempting to make Lia completely lost. Lia was slightly pushed to continue walking by the other girls. Suddenly, the pushing stopped. Lia took off her blindfold. The rest of the girls were gone. They would be waiting for her at the end of the forest. Lia was completely frightened. What should she do? Left or right? What if she couldn't find her way out? It was a cold night and she didn't bring a jacket. Lia had her arms wrapped around herself for warmth. Leaves crunch under her feet. Crickets chirped. She made a left turn. Something flew over her head and she held in her scream. She just wanted to go home. She didn't want to have anything to do with it. Lia decided to stop feeling bad for herself. What's done is done. Now, she just had to make sure that she would find her way out. She put her hand in her pocket. Lia had secretly brought a map of the forest. Under the moon light, she struggled to find were she was. While examining the map carefully, she suddenly heard something...something like laughter. "Hello?" she said, her voice cracking with fear. There was no reply. "You guys? It's not funny" she screamed, almost breaking into to tears... Still no reply, just the sound of owls hooting. Lia began to walk a little faster. She kept on going and going. After a while, she realized that she had passed the same tree already. She began to worry. Had the other girls left without her? Would they really just leave her in the forest, all alone? Lia began to try to focus. She had gone into the forest plenty of times before during the daytime. Why couldn't she figure out where she was now? She closed her eyes, trying to imagine the forest in the daytime. In the middle of her thought, she heard a crack of a twig behind her. She stayed still. Who was there? Lia listened for more sounds. There was nothing. She began to run. That is when she could hear the footsteps behind her. She began to cry. "HELP!" Lia yelled. Suddenly, she heard a burst of laughter behind her. It was the four girls that had taken her into the forest. "You ran so fast!" one exclaimed. Lia was upset. Why would her friends do this to her? "You guys are so mean! I'm never talking to you again!" She yelled. Suddenly, a hand from behind covered her mouth. "Don't move" was whispered into her ear. And it wasn't one of the girls...
