Chapter Forty

It's another long walk until we reach the bank. We really need a car. I mean, we probably can steal one, but that might bring some attention to us, attention that we really don't need. One block after another. Finally, we reach the bank.

"Are you ready?" I look toward Aaron and ask him the question. It doesn't really matter if he is ready, or not. We have to do this...right now. There is no time to waste. Kratos can come and end our lives at any moment. I think Aaron realizes this, so all he does as a response to my question is take a deep breath. I do the same.

Inhale, exhale.

Breathe in, breathe out.

'Breath in, breath out.' That reminds me of something I used to do and say in my old and normal life. In elementary school a few years back, whenever we had to take standardized exams, I would help the principal to prepare the school for the examination. She would give us a pep-talk and then I'd help her recite some type of relaxation exercise. We'd always tell the students to 'breathe in' and 'breathe out' at the end. I suppose that this is like a test as well. Robbing the bank is our test, and Kratos is our proctor, the one person at the front of the room who watches everyone closely. Ready to fail anyone. All with an eager face to soon see who has studied and who has not. Ready to see who will pass and who won't. Enough with reminiscing for now. It's time.

It's a small bank. As we enter, I see that there aren't many people around. To our left, there are 2 ATMs. Ahead of us, there are five bank teller windows. Close to that, there are some desks divided from each other by a few walls. To get to those windows, you must wait in a small maze-like line. The overall theme of the bank is a light aqua color.

Who is going to be the poor person that is going to "lend me" their uniform? I watch as Aaron goes a bit ahead of me. Looking casual, I follow him. Why is he walking so slowly? It takes me a few seconds to realize that we are disguised as much older people than we really are. To make the disguise look even more believable, I grab Aaron's hand. Well, perhaps I grab his hand more because of my personal opinions rather than because of the disguise, but either way it now appears like we are a married couple. At the corner of my eye, I swear I can see a slight blush on Aaron's cheeks. He tugs my arm in the direction he is walking toward. There are a few cubical-types of rooms near the back corner of the bank. We enter one of them.

"Hello!" Aaron says in a kind, sweet voice. Once again, like in the airport, he is using an accent. This time though, he has made his voice a bit raspy. It's perfect to fit the age he is attempting to portray.

"Hi, guys! My name is Anna and I'm here to answer any questions that you have!" The silky dark hair and tanned skin worker says.

"I was just wondering if I-" In the middle of his sentence, Aaron punches the woman near her throat. Before she can scream or even realizes what is happening, she is out cold. I give Aaron a quick nod to indicate that the plan so far is going well. I then move toward the girl, who is now laying on the floor right beneath her desk. I quickly take of her clothes. As I do this, Aaron leaves the cubical to go on line. I take off my clothes as well and put the lady's clothes instead. Everything fits almost perfectly; the shirt, blazer, skirt, and even her black high heels. I can't completely button up the blazer but that's fine. I take out some make up remover wipes that I threw in the stolen bag before we left the store and clean my face from the makeup. After that, I take my hair out of the ponytail and remove the hair extension. Bending my head down, I flip my hair down and then back up to add volume. I spray in some hair spray and now look like a completely different person. Grabbing my bag and throwing it over my shoulder, I leave everything else in the small room. I can't help but feel bad for the woman, but right now there is nothing I can do without putting myself at risk. Once out of the room, I walk toward the bank teller windows. There is a door to the left of them so that you can enter to go behind the windows. I enter inside. I lean on the inside of the door. I clear my throat.

"Excuse me?" I say in a high voice

I can hear the "click-clack" of high heels begin to approach me.

"Yes?" The lady says. Right as she is about to turn to look at me, I do the same thing that Aaron did to the other worker before. I punch her throat with my fist. I grab her waist quickly before she can fall backwards. I drag her a few inches and lean her on the door quietly. After I finish doing that, I walk to the window that she was working at. It's the last one all the way to the left. I stand there and wait for Aaron. There are two people in front of Aaron. I'm about to call one of them over, but the two of them go together to one of the other windows.

Perfect.

Aaron gives me a crooked smile as he approaches me. He comes slowly, looking like the old man he is dressed up as.

"Ma'am," he begins to say in a loud and clear voice, "Give me all your money!"

I can hear all the gasps from the others in line. Aaron turns 180 degrees to face them.

"And the rest of you, quite or I'll shoot!" Aaron puts on the most sinister face. It reminds me of Kratos...Could we possibly be becoming like him? Is that what he wants?

I don't have time for this.

I give Aaron a fake bag of money. He grabs it and runs out of the bank. Everyone watches until he is gone. Once he is out of the bank, everyone begins to yell and scream. Other employees at the bank rush to them. They all panic. I hear police sirens approaching and I begin to panic with them. I hold my bag open as I start to stuff rubber band-wrapped stacks of money. The bag is filled and I run to the other exit, opposite to the one that the police is coming through. No one has seen me. I enter a small ally-way. I see Aaron. Everything is going as planned. But wait...where is the car?!

Crap. We forgot to steal the car.

I spoke to soon, everything definitely is not going as planned.

"Um Lia...We forgot to steal the car." Aaron says to me. He has a worried look on his face.

"Quick. We have to get as far away from here as we can. C'mon." I reply in a low voice.

With just minutes before this whole block is surrounded by the people coming to get us in the uniforms, we start to run with the sound of police sirens in the background.
