Chapter 38
Aaron and I sit on a wooden barbeque bench close to the sea shore. Our before wet clothes have now dried. We’ve ordered some food from a small shack type of restaurant. The waiter brings our food, Aaron’s lobster and my fried calamari, and we thank him. Once he is a good distance away from us, we begin to discuss our plan.
“So. How are we going to do this?” Aaron asks me in a low voice, hoping no one else will hear our conversation. Imagine someone listening to two teenager coming up with a plan to rob a bank. They would be outraged!
“Well. I’m not sure. We are going to need enough money to get fake pass ports, new clothes, and a place to stay. Maybe enough for a rental car. I mean, if we are going to rob a bank we might as well steal a whole load of money, right? Make it worth it or don’t do it all?”
“I don’t think that saying really applies to robbing banks, Lia. But continue.” Aaron interrupts me. I see a small smirk on his face. I give him an annoyed look and continue explaining the plan to him.
“Anyways, I am going to first need your help to get one of the employee uniforms. Then, I’ll get behind one of those glass windows at the bank. I will look like one of those bank tellers or whatever you call those people. While I ‘help’ the customers, you are going to be waiting in line. You need to look nervous and will have to fidget a lot. Once it is your turn in line, you come to me. You are going to yell ‘Give me all your money!’ as you fake a bank robbery. Well, not exactly fake the robbery because really are robbing a bank, you know?”
“Uh huh. Continue.” Aaron replies. Maybe he doesn’t think so much of this plan…
“Okay. From what I’ve read from newspapers and some detective books, usually banks are prepared for robberies. They have a bag full of money with red exploding packs of red dye or something else to distract the criminal. Instead of handing you over this trap, I will hand you an empty bag. You will then run out of the bank with the bag in hand. While you run away, everyone at the bank with probably be freaking out about the robbery. This will work as a distraction. During the same time that you are escaping, I’ll be filling my purse with all the money that I can grab. I’ll leave the bank from an exit opposite from the one you will run out of. You’ll run to the car, which will be by the exit that I will leave from, and I’ll hop into the car. We can then drive to a resort that we can stay in. Okay?”
“One question. What car?” Aaron asks me with a puzzled and a bit frustrated look.
“Oh. We’ll just have to steal one.” I reply in a quick voice.
“Of course we are.” He says, with a now annoyed voice. He puts his elbow and the table and rests his head in the palm of his hand. I can tell he is starting to get a little sick of this crazy and risky life.
“I guess we better start moving.” Aaron says. His voice sounds tired and full of reluctance. I feel horrible and want this all to end. I can’t help but think that all this is my fault. Kratos is hurting us, just like he wants to. Although seeing Aaron hurt pains me, there is nothing I can do about it now. Its time to resume fighting Kratos back and trying toget our old lives back.
I let out a deep sigh.
My hands reach to the top of my head and I pluck out one strand of hair. I place it on my almost empty plate.
“Excuse me! Excuse me, waiter?” I yell out to the poor man.
“Yes, ma’am?” Says the now scared waiter.
“Look at this! How discusting! A hair in my food! We are not paying for this disgrace!”
“I-I’m so sorr-“
“Have a nice day, sir!” I get up angrily. I jester Aaron to follow behind me. We walk away from the restaurant quickly before the will realize what we did.
I think that’s another score for my acting skills.
“Huh. Placing a hair in your food so you don’t have to pay. Very clever Lia, very clever.” Aaron says with a smile.
I look at him and smile right back. It’s good to see his smile rather than that frown that he wears all too often.
