Chapter Twenty-Four
“Can you even drive?” I ask Aaron. Right now we are driving straight up a vacant street, but when we go to the highway or start making turns, I don’t think Aaron will be able to manage. Even now the car is swerving without him even moving the steering wheel. Out the windshield, I see only gray. There road and sky blend into each other. Rain drops run down the windows.
“Sure.” He says, his eyes not leaving the road.
He is fifteen. There is no way that he can drive. The reason why he knows how to turn the steering wheel is probably because of one of his video games. We are defiantly going to get into an accident.
Uh oh
Here comes a turn.
Aaron definitely has no idea how to drive.
I clutch onto the bottom of the seat for my life. My teeth are clenched together. We turn so quickly onto another narrow road. The car spins slightly and half of the car is driving on the sidewalk. Aaron turns his head toward the side mirror and sees a black car following us. Aaron spins his head back to face the road and hits the pedal harder. The old car immediately accelerates. Going so fast and not driving completely on the street, the car pushes down numerous stop signs and speed limit signs. The car is being dented and scratched everywhere. I turn back to look if the car is still following us. It is. My eyes meet Aaron’s and the fear in my eyes reflects into his. The car goes faster and faster. I want to tell him to slow down, that driving this fast is dangerous, but I know that it would be worse to be caught by Kratos and his followers than to get a few bruises and scratches. Another turn. Aaron hits a tree and one of its branches hitting the car makes the glass of the window on my side of the car shatters. I feel the shattered pieces of glass scratch my face. The rain outside has only gotten harder and quickly drenches me. We do not stop driving. It’s too dangerous. The car continues to follow us. Why? Why won’t it just leave us alone? I want this to go all away. I want to go back home. Back to my parents and my friends. Back to the horrible place that I could not miss more called school. Memories of my past fill my mind. I feel the burning sensation in my eyes. My silent tears runs down my face and mix with the rain pouring into the car.
I want it all to go away
I whisper to myself. I know that that won’t have to happen. I have to except this. And I am. I am facing reality. But why me?
