Chapter Thirty-One
Aaron and I have snuck our way past the airline check in and now are approaching the airport security. Aaron says this plan is going to work, going to work well. He promises that we won’t get caught. I don’t think that he realizes that getting caught isn’t what troubles me. What troubles me is the thought of me failing and letting Kratos win this battle. What if he kills everyone one I love? It would be more painful to lose everyone I have than to actually die myself. It is okay, Lia. It is going to be fine. Breath in, breath out. Inhale, exhale. Okay. I think I am ready. Aaron gives me a stern look. There is my cue. I go in the center of the airport security and start screaming. “Oh, no! I-“ I take a humungous , unnecessary gulp of air before I begin to speak again. “-I-I am having an asthma attack!” I scream so loud, everyone is looking at me. I start panting dramatically. Travelers rolling their luggage and security guards pushing through them start rushing to my aid. At the corner of my eye, I see Aaron quickly punch a security about his size from behind so that when the man gains consciousness, he will not be able to describe his attacker. Surprisingly, no one has seen him do it. Aaron grabs the poor man’s legs and drags him to a closet. I look back to one of the security guards trying to help me. “My-inhaler! Its-in my-bag!” I gasp between words. I collapse onto the floor. Those acting classes really paid off…
“Sweetie, it will be okay. Breathe in and out. Where is your bag?” A security guard says, trying to sooth me.
“It–is–over-there!” I say, pointing with a shaky finger past the crowd of people where many bags were left when the travelers rushed toward me.
“What color is it?” the guard asks me.
“Black!” I lie.
I know that black is the most common color for luggage and with so many black luggage’s, it would be very difficult for someone to find my nonexistent inhaler. The security guard, whose name tag says “Taylor”, gets up from her crouched position beside me. She runs to the bags and starts opening one. Before she can fully unzip the luggage, another security gaurds comes our way.
Wait a minute.
That’s, that’s… Aaron.
He looks as if he really did work at this airport. Huh. “Excuse me, miss. But I’ll take her from here.” Aaron, or shall I say “Chris” according to his nametag, says to the lady security guard. I almost burst out laughing at the sound of Aaron’s voice. It’s nothing like his normal voice. He has made his voice sound deeper and has a bit of a southern accent, but it’s pretty convincing. Aaron hands me an inhaler and escorts me past security. I walk past the metal detector and continue coughing to make the people believe our act. Ipuff my face up and make it turn red as I breathe in and out with my inhaler. Once out of the airport security’s view, Aaron and I cut the act. We walk calmly as we approach the gates.
“Which flight are we going to get on?” I ask Aaron. Suddenly, the intercom goes on and a flight attendant’s voice can be heard.
“Flight 5476 is now boarding at gate 7.”
Aaron looks at me and smiles.
“That one.”
