Chapter 8
Sunday mornings are usually the best times of the week. I slept in really late and woke up in the afternoon. I rolled around on the bed knowing that it was past 1 in the afternoon. But the smell of chicken kabab just pulled me out of the bed and got me rolling downstairs.
Yup, you're right! Dad was making them and mom was nowhere in sight. He was humming some song to himself with his beautiful voice. Seems that he was the lead male singer cum lead guitarist in his band with mom as the rythm guitarist and lead female singer. I know, musical family, aye?
I tiptoed to surprise him but he turned and caught me just in time. I giggled.
"Hey dad, morning!" I said peeking into the lids of various dishes and trying to pop some salad in my mouth. He caught my ear causing me to wince in pain and drop it back.
"Hey! That hurt! Leave me!" I yelled.
"Brushed your teeth?" he asked facing me.
I nodded a 'no'.
"Brush, take a good shower and come down. Else no food the whole day."
I pouted looking at him and noticed mom sneaking up behind him trying to steal some food like me. He shot back his hand, holding her ear and pulling her up next to me. She yelled out in pain, pleading him to leave her.
"I'm sorry Ash! I won't sneak up again! I promise!" she begged.
But he didn't leave her ear yet.
Why?
"Give me back the cereal box Scarlett," he forwarded his hand.
She pouted cutely giving him back the box she held in her other hand.
"Good girls. Now go clean up and come or else no food. Especially you, Alice Scarlett. I need you to shower," he emphasised the point to her.
"Mood spoiler," she mumbled walking away with her pout still on.
Mom was so sluggish that she thought that bathing was just a waste of time. She had her own psycology about things and stood out in many aspects. I wonder how dad fell for mom. You heard me right! Dad fell for mom! She must be a witch or something to make that possible.
I showered and put on some dark skinny fit ripped jeans, a black low neck tight tank top with a grey loose hoodie. I dried my hair, letting them go in my natural curls. I did my usual smoky eyes and put in my contacts. Yup, this is how I am supposed to look like, a spoilt chick. I checked myself in the mirror.
Sexy!
Okay, now I am ready to go.
I headed back down and saw mom and dad smirking at each other. Shucks, why do they keep doing that? It creeps the hell out of me!
I cleared my throat, pulling the dining chair back with a loud screech implying that I was here.
"Shucks! What's wrong Jea- Whoa! Look who is back!" mom smirked at me.
"My daughter has found herself back!" dad ruffled my hair as if I was a dog.
"Oh shucks, it's nothing like that," I sighed slumping into my chair. "Now give me my food! I am starving!" I yelled pulling out all the lids like a hungry dog.
"And this-" mom pointed her finger at me, "is the reason why I said we don't need any dogs at home."
"Oh cuh ooonn... Im hunnnrryyy..."
"Don't speak with your mouth full darling," dad sighed. "She feels like deja vu of you Scarlett."
Mom winked, "Ha! My daughter."
