Chapter 27

Jean's POV:

I was doing this again. I am being my oldself despite my promises to myself. Basketball and Jane were the one's which did this to me. But yes, it does feels great to stand up to my own self, be the heroine of my own story. Huh, being the damsel in distress was so annoying!

I was in a dark purple, almost black dress, hugging my torso gracefully and with my hair up, tight, in a high straight ponytail. Large hoop earrings hanging on my ears and the dark, smoky eye shadow with long and curled lashes. Light lip balm on my lips. (Come on! I don't like lip gloss!) Sneakers to cover me up for my hatred for heels. My hazel eyes sparkled perfectly and I headed downstairs.

Ian's jaw dropped completely as he stood there waiting for me. He pulled me to his chest and twirled me laughing.

"I missed this sexy lady!" he winked as we got into his car.

"Uh-huh? That's sweet," I smirked.

"You know that everyone will be baffled there, right?"

"Yup."

"And you are okay with it."

"Positive."

"You can't get into the nerd form again, Scarlett," he warned.

"Like I care anymore. This school needs a taste of the legendary Jean Scarlett Roger," I boasted.

"You sound like a warrior princess."

"Don't compare me with a princess!" I whined, my nose crinkled in disgust.

"A warrior! I mentioned that!"

"Oh," I smiled crookedly, "perfect."

We reached Ray's place and the smell of the booze hit me very strongly. Yep, his parents are definitely not home. Few stopped to look at me and they frowned. Obviously, they wouldn't have recognised me. Kate and Jane were looking at me and I smirked at the thought of Kate's jaw dropping. I walked in, hand in hand with Ian, (well, he insisted me to) and Ray walked to us.

"Jean!" I saw his breath hitch.

I smirked, "Ray."

"You look," he eyed me from head to toe and I felt Ian tense up behind me, "hot!"

"Well, isn't that something to be delighted for?" I chuckled.

"Umm, yeah, I mean, come in?"

Oh, poor thing! The cat got his tongue! I like this Ray! Stuttering and blushing. Makes me feel like myself again. But then, it reminds me of him as well.

"C'mon, Scarlett," Ian towed me from behind.

"Uh? Yeah," I zoned in and walked in.

Kate slowly recovered from the earlier shock of seeing me like this and stepped in front of me along with Jane.

"This is what you really are then, huh, nerd?" Kate raised her brow.

"Yes, bitch," I spat.

She reeled back from what I said and frowned, "what did you call me, nerd?"

"Ah! Hearing aid, here!" I rolled my eyes, "why don't you go get your ears checked," I slowly spelt, "bitch."

"How dare you!" she lunged forth at me and I dodged. Who knew that Kate was so violent?

"Jane, why don't you take care of this mad woman of a cousin of yours?" I looked at her and smirked.

"Don't think that just because you changed schools I will let you get cocky all over again. I will show your place just like I did back then, Jean," Jane narrowed her eyes.
