Chapter 30
"I, Ray Cunningham, want you, Jean Scarlett Roger, to come out on a date with me."
I laughed humourlessly, more to myself, "you are kidding me, right?"
"No," he looked rather serious.
I looked at Ian curiously, wanting to know his reaction. His face was red, almost fuming, as he balled his fists to his sides. Okay, maybe he doesn't like that! So now, what do I do? Maybe I should say no and reject him as I have no interest in him. But then, watching Jane's face made me decide otherwise. She was grinning so bad, that I wanted to pluck out her teeth all at once.
"Sure," I replied rather confidently knowing that I would be facing consequences later.
"Awesome!" he fist pumped in the air, "I will text you the details!"
Ray went away hopping in delight and I turned around to see very annoyed Ian and Megan who slightly made me flinch coz of their glares.
"Jean, even you will have a new date tale to tell me!" Arch said excitedly.
I chuckled nervously as I was gonna face the wrath of my best friends sitting with me right now. I looked at them with an eyebrow raised and they shot me death glares.
"Last time it was a hangout and this time it is an all out date?" Megan yelled on my face. "What the hell is going on, Jean?"
"What is going on?" I asked in turn.
"Why are you going out with him? Do you really like him? Tell me just this once and I swear that I will never bother you again," Meg looked defeated and I sighed. Ian didn't bother speaking as he knew that all the talking now would be done by his cousin right here.
I gulped and Jane looked at me anxiously. Yes, she did wanna know about my love interest. But hey! I didn't want her to know anything!
"Can we talk about this at my place where we can have a little privacy?" I emphasised the part so that Jane could hear it.
"Spill!" Meg barked as soon as we stepped in our house. Dad and mom were already home and they looked rather confused by Meg's sudden outburst.
"Jeez, woman, don't shout!" I rolled my eyes and handed her my phone with Ray's text.
From Ray: Hey, Jean! Sorry about the absurd asking you out but, my parents were continuously goading me to ask you out on a date. So, that was it. Sorry about making it such a big deal. And yeah, I always wanted to ask you out on a date so, that just sums it all up. Alright, so I will pick you up on Saturday evening at 6. So, wear something nice. Kay?
Meg read it all out and I saw that they looked a little more relaxed.
"So?" Meg folded her hands.
"My daughter is going on a date!" mom squealed, "Ash! This calls for a celebration!"
"If you were gonna be so excited then I would have taken Scarlett on a date myself, Alice," Ian smirked.
"Then do," mom smirked back.
"I was not kidding, Alice."
"Neither am I, Ian."
Whoa! What the hell were they getting to? Why in the world would I go on a date with Ian? Well, but the thought itself gives me pterodactyls in my stomach!
"Deal," Ian nodded, "I am gonna take her on a date, then."
"Is that so?" mom grinned cockily.
"It is," Ian matched her, "Scarlett, we are going on a date on Sunday at 5. Be yourself. Kay?" he smirked and walked out.
