chapter twelve. . .
the mortal cup

"I KNOW WHERE the Cup is." For time, Clary had been oblivious to where the Mortal Cup had been as everyone demanded for it for a life. And as many times as she had been honest no one believed her, but the whole time the Mortal Cup had been right in front of her. Malia's attention was narrowed on her best friend in curiosity of where the Cup had been hidden the entire time. If she knew, they needed to find the Cup before the chances of someone else finding it and getting to it. But everyone was trying to grasp what came out of the Fairchild's mouth as she stared at the warlock, the two Shadowhunters and the Banshee.

Ben's brows raised as he approach the teen with curiosity. "Come again?" He asked.

Malia sat forward within her seat as she studied her best friend, needing for her to develop the knowledge she had. "The tarot cards." The redhead stated as she turned to face those surrounding her with intrigue. "My mom, she must have painted them years ago, but the Mortal Cup has to be hidden in the Ace of Cups. The card looks exactly like it." But with the frowns amongst their faces, Clary was confused with them, thinking that the news she carried was good news. "Wait, why aren't you guys happy about this? All we have to do is find..."

The brunette sighed heavily. "All we have do is find Dot?" Malia reminded before crossing her leg over the other. "We don't know where Dot is." She exclaimed.

"If Dot had the cards when she was taken, we don't have much time." Jace told, as his eyes flickered down towards the Adams. "If Valentine get his hands on the Cup-"

Magnus had pushed himself from the couch to cut Jace off from speaking any further. "We know." He reassured. "If Valentine started creating Shadowhunters or gained control of demons, it'd be like Beyoncé riding on a dinosaur through Times Square. People would notice."

"But he can control demons." Clary exclaimed, and it was as if it had been a reminder for her friends. "I've seen it."

"Mmm, paying off a few demons is easy," Magnus explained as he stopped his walk to stand in front of the Fairchild. "especially since they rarely survive long enough to collect."

"Still waiting on Valentine's thank-you card." Jace quipped as he fiddled with his hands whilst Malia had chuckled before pushing herself to her feet.

"Opening the gates of hell...that's a little more tricky."

"Valentine doesn't have the cards." Malia twirled on the heels of her ankle boots for her eyes to fall onto Luke who emerged from the bedroom where he had been regaining his strength. "I do. They're in my desk back at the precinct. When Clary went missing, I went to the loft and I cleared everything out, cause I didn't want the circle to track her down. Or even Malia."
