chapter fifty-one. . .
broken bond

MALIA HADN'T HAD the chance to see her brother since his imprisonment in the subcell. She had returned to her fall strength, but felt the darkness slowly beginning to take over her. The Bellerose had come to the realisation that her angelic self was weaker given her resurrection and what she had seen in her subconscious haunted her. She didn't want to cause any harm, she didn't want her 'destined darkness' to consume her.

Jonathan allowed it to happen. He thought he was doing something good when he was doing something bad for Malia's mental state. Dark circles formed beneath her eyes, too afraid to fall asleep, too afraid to allow herself to be consumed into the darkness that was prepared to take over.

Her anxious thoughts had been interrupted when the doors of the elevator that led to the subcells had slide open, a chime following. Jace's hand rested on Malia's lower back to gesture for her to step out of the elevator and being their approach towards the glass that Alec, Clary and Ben stood in front of. They were watching the Morgenstern who had been chained, where his arms were raised whilst he had been wrapped into a straight jacket and a collar around his mouth that kept him silent and unable to even think of hurting himself to where it'd inflict on either Malia or Clary.

A shaky breath had escaped Malia's lips as she had slowed beside her sister who had been glaring at Jonathan as he had followed the expression. They hoped to know more about his want of the Morning Star swords, and as much as they tried to peel information from him, he only wanted to talk to his sisters.

Jace's hands clasped together. "Did he say anything?"

"No." Alec replied. "Underhill's been questioning him about the Morning Star swords, but he refused to speak to anyone except Clary and Malia."

Malia's lips pursed as she exchanged looks with her sister. Clary was hesitant, she wasn't so sure if it was best for her to be close to Jonathan. Yet her anchor, Ben, stood by her side and he had given her a comforting smile to soothe her worry of making the link with her brother stronger.

"Let us in, Alec." Malia demanded as she prepared to leave her boyfriend's side.

"Malia," Jace had caught her wrist, doubting if it was such a good idea for the both of them. "if you get any closer to him, you're only gonna strengthen his power over you."

"It's okay." Malia reassured as she rested her hand over the blonde's. "I'll be okay. If what is happening to Clary is happening to me then...then you'll bring me back. As long as you're here, It's okay."

"Then right here is where we'll be." Ben had broken his silence as he donated a warm smile towards his girlfriend.

Jonathan had slightly brighten with the presence of his sisters, ones he had been expecting since he made his mind up that he only wanted to talk them. Malia had taken a sharp intake of breath as she stood in the subcell alongside her sister as Jonathan's eyes lingered on the both of them whilst a guard released him from the mask that covered his mouth.
