Chapter 18- Surprise!

[Joey P.O.V]

“Hey…was that her?”

“Who Lisa? Yeah. She called back.”

“Oh wow.”

“She said she was coming tomorrow…to visit my mom.”

“Wow, I’m surprised.”

“I know…me too. Maybe she really wants to be friends.”

“Well let’s hope she’s done with her evil plan because I do not want to deal with that cray Mike again.”

“Joey don’t even worry about him. Because if he even tries to mess with you again, he’s getting punched in his f**king face.”

“I like when you’re all defensive. It’s hot.”

He starts laughing. He leans in to kiss me when my phone goes off.

“Hold on.”

I quickly walk about twenty feet away before answering. It was Sawyer. If it was bad news, there was no way Shane could hear. Not like that.

“Hello? Is everything okay?”

“Yes Joey. It’s amazing. Shane’s mom woke up!”

“OHHHH YESS!”

“Are you coming?”

“Yes. On our way now. But I’m not going to tell Shane…I want him to be surprised.”

“Okay dude. See you.”

I run over to Shane.

“Come on. We should probably head back. Sawyer needs to go home and… feed Hitch! And Corny!”

“Okay.”

I start running over to the car and I look back and hear him whisper.

“Goodbye Grandma. I love you. I hope it works out.”

Oh Shane. It sure did.

[Shane P.O.V]

“Joey why the rush?...”

“Like I said… Sawyer needs to get back.”

“Oh alright.”

I look out the window and remember.

“Wait we forgot clothes for tomorrow…we need to get some if we’re sleeping there.”

“It’s fine.”

“You want to stay in the same clothes tomorrow? Why?...”

“No…but…”

“Is…everything alright?”

“Uh…yes!”

“Promise?”

“Yes! Sawyer said you’re mom is improving as we speak…”

“Okay good.”

There was something different in the way Joey was talking to me. Like something was different. Hmm…He did say everything was okay and I trust him so…

“I have a good feeling…about this. I don’t know but looking up at those stars just…helped. You know? Getting to talk to my grandma was really helpful.”
