Chapter 24: Aliyah

Nate and I walked into the lounge room where my mum was standing waiting for me.
"So Nate's the father why didn't you just tell me?"
"Don't feel left out mum I didn't even tell him."
"Are you ready to go?"
"Go?"
"The scan at the hospital is today remember."
"Oh yeah I forgot."
Nate looked at me.
"What's the scan for is everything alright?"
"Yeah it's just the necessary 20 week scan."
My Mum smiled.
"And you know what were able to find out today."
"The genders."
"Yep."
"Really?"
"Yeah and you get to see them moving and everything, did you want to come with us?"
"Yeah that'd be great if you wanted me too."
"Of coarse I do they're your babies too."
"Ok then I'd love to come."
My mum grabbed her car keys from the table.
"Ok then let's get going."

The doctor ran the ultrasound probe over my belly a couple of times and then finally wiped it with a cloth before placing it down on the table.
"Well everything seems to be perfectly fine and you and the babies are extremely healthy."
"That's wonderful thank you."
"Would you like to know the genders?"
"Yes."
"Got any guesses?"
"I think it's two girls but my Mum hopes there's at least one boy because she only had one boy with two girls."
"Well it's one of each a boy and a girl."
I smiled at my Mum.
"Oh my god I can't believe it."
"Congratulations."
"We both kinda win."
"True."
"I'll just print a picture for you an then we're all done here."
"Thank you so much."
I looked to Nate who hadn't said a word the whole time we had been here and could see that he had a worried look on his face.
"Nate are you ok?"
"Yeah I'm just gonna wait outside if that's ok."
Nate stormed out of the room and I looked to my mum then jumped down off the bed to follow him outside.
"Sorry I'll be right back mum."
"Aliyah?"
"Nate wait, please."
I raced after him and caught him half way down the hall.
"Are you ok?"
"It just became really to me that there's two of them in there."
"I told you before remember?"
"I know but..."
"Now it's certain?"
"Yeah now there's two lives for me to mess up."
"Nate your not gonna stuff up you'll be a great dad."
"No I'll do something wrong like always."
"Nate it's ok to be afraid I'm still terrified but I told you before you don't have to stay."
"I'm not gonna leave you."
"But I don't want you to stay if you don't want to."
"I do I just need some time to think about it all."
"Ok I'll talk to you later then."
"I'm sorry."
"No it's fine take all the time you need."
Nate walked off and I watched him disappear down the stairs. I walked back into the room and laid back down on the bed.
"Is everything ok?"
Tears be gain to form in my eyes.
"I don't know."
"Where's Nate?"
"He left."
"I'm sure he's just scared he'll come around he just needs time to process this."
I wiped away my tears as  my mum wrapped her arms around me.
