My mum wheeled me into the ICU as Nate walked behind me. When I spotted the babies I couldn't take my eyes off them they were perfect. Nate raced over to assist me in standing up and he tried is best to help me up but I could tell it was hurting him.
"Nate I'm ok I can get up."
"No I wanna help."
"It's fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I promise."
I lifted myself up from the chair and stepped closer to the incubators as Nate moved with me. I looked right at our baby boy and left to see our baby girl who were both sound sleep.
"They're adorable,"
I smiled at Nate and then continued my sentence.
"Perfect even."
"I agree."
"They're so tiny."
"I know they look so fragile how are we not gonna break them?"
"I have absolutely no idea."
"Maybe we can wrap them in bubble wrap that should protect them from us."
"That sounds like a good idea."
Nate placed his hand on the glass of the first incubator.
"I still can't believe that they're ours "
"Neither can I it still doesn't seem real to me."
My mum walked up behind us.
"That'll change soon you's will make great parents I can tell."
"Thanks mum."
"What are their names?"
I looked up to Aliyah and spoke.
"I've always liked Reed for a boy."
"Reed it is and our little girl?"
"You can decide."
"Luna."
"Sounds perfect."
"Luna but Freya for her middle name."
She smiled back at me as I held onto her hand.
"Even better."
Nate turned to me in pain holding onto the side of his ribs as I placed my hand on his cheek accidentally touching his cut which made him cringe.
"I'm so sorry I didn't mean to."
"It's fine it doesn't hurt much."
"Now I know your lying, you were hit by a car of cause your gonna be in pain your not superman."
"I could be."
"You need to admit it to yourself that your hurt."
"No because if I'm hurt I can't look after you and the babies which is suppose to be my job."
"I'm ok and so are the babies but look at you your injured you can barely stand."
"A man looks after a woman after a baby is born not the other way around."
"That's stereotypical it's not an outline of how it has to be."
"I just hate feeling useless."
"Nate your not useless you've done plenty for us but now it's time for us to help you recover so that you'll be able to care for us in the future."
Nate took a short glimpse at the twins and then placed his arms around my waist.
"Ok you win but just this once."
"No trust me I'll always win."
Nate smiled breathing out heavily as he pulled away from my lips for a short moment to speak.
"If you say so."
"I do say so cause I'm the boss."
"We'll see about that."
