I woke up in the morning and got dressed but moments later I got a sick feeling in my stomach once again. I raced pass my brother into the bathroom and slouched over the toilet as my stomach heaved sending acid like vomit flying up and out of my mouth. I stood up wiping my mouth with a piece of toilet paper and flushing the toilet.
"Are you ok Ali?"
I turned around to see Cameron standing behind me with a worried look on his face.
"Yeah I'm fine I'm just not feeling too good."
"Maybe you should stay home."
"I wish could buddy but I have to go to school mum won't let me stay home."
"Just tell her your sick she'll let you stay home then."
"No it's ok I'll be fine I promise."
"I can tell her for you."
"No Cameron wait!"
Before I could say anything he was gone racing down stairs to find Mum. I walked over to the mirror and stared at my pale white face. Why was I still sick? It didn't make any sense there had to be an explanation for it.
~~~
I fixed up my make up and sprayed myself with deodorant before I walked down stairs into the lounge room where my Mum was standing waiting for me.
"Hey Mum."
"Aliyah can we talk?"
"Sure Mum what's up?"
"I know that you haven't been feeling well lately, is everything ok?"
"Yeah Mum I'm fine."
"Your always exhausted when you come home from school and you've been sick every morning for days."
"And?"
"Are you sure your not... Pregnant?"
"What? Mum why would you think that?"
"Aliyah you can tell me the truth I won't be mad."
I looked down at the ground I couldn't lie any more I needed to tell her the truth.
"I took two tests and they both came back negative."
"But you might be?"
"I'm not sure, it could just be a stomach bug or something that's going around."
"Maybe but you can never be too careful."
"What should I do?"
"I can book you an appointment for this afternoon."
"No."
"No? you can't ignore this Aliyah something could be wrong."
"I know but I'm scared, Mum what if..."
My Mum pulled my close and wrapped her arms around me.
"Don't worry about that now sweetie we'll just have to wait and see there's no use in stressing yourself out."
"Ok I'll go but will you come with me?"
"Of course I won't leave your side I promise."
"Thanks Mum your the best."
"That's what Mums are for."
~~~
I laid on the bed shaking in fear as the doctor placed a small amount of gel on my stomach and began to used the ultrasound probe to examine. He had a serious look on his face as he pressed some buttons on the machine. My Mum grabbed my hand and spoke up in a frightened tone.
"Is everything ok with her?"
"Am I pregnant?"
"Definently."
My heart sank as I placed my hand over my stomach it couldn't be right he must have done something wrong but I didn't know wether I was more shocked or excited that there wasn't something terribly wrong with me like I though there was.
"No there has to be a mistake."
"I can assure you there isn't."
"But the pregnancy tests where negative."
"HCG levels are low early on in pregnancy so it mustn't have shown up on them your only around 6 weeks."
I reached out to my Mum in tears.
"I can't have a baby Mum what am I gonna do?"
"It'll be ok I promise."
The doctor turned to me and I could tell that he was judging me by the look on his face.
"There's more."
"What do you mean more? What can top being pregnant?"
"Your having twins."
"Twins?"
"Two babies?"
"You can see two separate placentas."
He pointed to the screen where you could faintly see blobs which meant two babies, twins how am I suppose to look after two babies? I can barely take care of myself.
~~~
We arrived home and I sat down on the lounge with my head in my lap still shaking as my Mum sat next to me.
"How are you feeling?"
"Confused I don't know what to do."
"Well first of all do you want to keep them? The babies?"
"Babies are a gift I can't just abandon them it's not their fault they shouldn't be punished."
"So you want them?"
"I don't know just yet."
"Does the father?"
"He doesn't need to know about them I can make a decision on my own."
"That's a huge responsibility to take on are you sure you can handle it by yourself?"
"It'll be hard, but I'll manage I hope."
"Ok."
We sat silently for a few moments until I spoke up stumbling on my words.
"Yy you won't kick me out though will you?"
"No I'll help you."
"Grandmas kicked you out though when you had a teenage pregnancy, why wouldn't you do the same?"
"Because I don't want you getting hurt like I did I want you and your babies to be safe and the safest place is here with me."
"What about Dad?"
"I'll talk to him he'll understand."
"Thank you Mum I don't know what I would do without you."
"Neither do I and your right children are a gift you were the best thing that ever happened to me."
"Really?"
"Yes so I support which ever decision you make."
I smiled at my mum and hugged her.
"Thank you."
I know I had already said it a million times but there was nothing else that felt right to say.
"It's ok."
