Chapter 15

N awakens to the sound of footsteps. He jerks up, he had fallen asleep in May's room. He rolls out of the bed and onto the floor as the door to May's room opens.

Her mother and father walk in whispering quietly. He stays perfectly still.

"I have an off feeling about those boys," her mother whispers, "Especially that dark skinned one, N? He wouldn't stop staring."

"Maybe it's just because she's pretty?" Mr. Lancaster suggests, kissing his daughters forehead. Mrs. Lancaster snorts.

"James, I love May, you know I do, but in all honesty, Melissa is far prettier."

N clenches his fists, how could her own parents say that about their daughter.

"Well, she didn't have a chance at having your DNA dear," Mr. Lancaster compliments his wife.

"When are we going to tell her?" Mrs. Lancaster asks quietly, compassion and love back in her voice, "She has a right to know."

"Keep your voice down, you'll wake her up," Mr. Lancaster scolds as they leave the room. Through the door, N can hear him, "We agreed to tell her after we had died. That way, we wouldn't be burdened by her emotions when she finds out she's adopted."

*Adopted?*

Camille watches Hyuk carefully. He had lied and said he needed to relieve himself, in reality, he just needed to figure out where he was and how to tell the boys he's still alive.

"Camille, I can't go if you're watching me like a hawk."

"I'm not stupid Hyuk, I know you're looking for an escape."

"How did you..."

"Know that?" She finishes for him, "Oh Hyuk, Leo isn't the only one who can has telepathy. Ravi isn't the only one who can teleport. I can understand every language just like Hongbin, and walk through solid objects like Ken. I have super healing just like you. Vampires came from demons, how did you think your kind got powers?"

"But what about N-hyung?" He asks, turning around to look at her.

"N is an exception, he didn't get his powers from being Turned, he had them before."

"How could he have powers before being Turned?"

She tugs his ear and brings it close to her mouth, "That's for me to know and you to figure out."

*"I can't believe you May!" Camille yells in frustration, "Why are you upset that I went to Hell? It's my home anyway."

"What if you had been trapped back down there?" May sighs, she was tired of the fight she knew she would lose, "Did you at least find anything in your dangerous and foolish mission?"

Camille smiles, "I found out why your wings were cut off in the first place. Not how you can get them back though."

Her face falls and May touches her shoulder comfortingly, "Why did the angel take my wings?"

"Because..."

She is cut off by two familiar voices.*

"That way we wouldn't be burdened with her emotions when she finds out she's adopted," she hears her father say. She sits up and N is by her side in an instant.
