(Justin’s P.O.V)
“Thank you.” she smiled up at me once her dress was dusted off.
“Cool,” I mumbled, starting to walk away but Femke stopped me.
“You- uh, you don’t talk much, do you?” she asked, fiddling with her fingers as she looked up at me. Her expressions were so innocent. Blond hair, grey eyes. She wore a normal pair of tracksuit. Covering her body, unlike other girls.
“Your concern?” I asked, suddenly sounding very rude.
Her expression fell as she stared at me for a while, quickly breaking eye contact and looking everywhere else but at me.
“For how many days are you gonna live here?” I asked out of the blue, somewhat, wanting to change the topic and cover up my rudeness. I just had to.
“Excuse me?” she giggled a bit.
“I meant for how long have you guys shifted here for? You said in Air Force you get posted again and again, so.” I explained.
“Yeah, how’d you know we’re from the Air Force?” she asked, tilting her head a bit when I didn’t respond quickly.
“Chaz told me.” I lied. The truth was that I was sneaking in her conversation with Chaz.
“Oh, well we’ve just shifted here so we’ll be here for a while. No chance of posting any time soon.” she told me, tucking her hair behind her ear. I nodded in response, looking around.
“For how long have you been here, Justin?” she asked.
“Ever since I was born. I met Chaz, Ryan, and Christian here. We became friends since we were babies.” I explained as I chuckled a bit. She laughed along.
“Ryan and Christian? Who are they? The names are familiar though.” She got lost in her thoughts for a while before snapping her fingers quickly, in a gesture of remembering something, “Hey, Ryan, right? Ryan Butler?” she asked as I nodded. “I know him. He’s Sonia’s boyfriend? How’s he such a close friend of yours? Sonia never told me about you guys.” she said as she made a tensed face.
What
The
HELL.
I knew it. I fucking knew it! Oh, Ryan, you never went to the market.
“What the-” I paused, knowing I had to cover up the fact that I didn’t know that otherwise Femke won’t tell me more. “Oh, yeah. That’s Ryan! Sonia’s boyfriend.. sure!” I said, trying to act as if I knew about this. This was a shock. Ryan? Sonia’s boyfriend? When the hell? And how the hell? And where the hell? And why the hell? So many hells!
Femke looked at me for a while, examining my face. My looks. I had a feeling she figured out that I didn’t know about this. So I might as well accept the reality.
“You didn’t know about this, did you?” she asked.
“Nope.” I shook my head, admitting that Ryan didn’t tell us one but about his relationship. Femke laughed a bit, shaking her head. I laughed a bit, but stopped myself quickly.
“Don’t break his bones now.” she pleaded.
“No promises.” I said, slightly smiling.
I’ve never had a normal conversation, without cursing on hitting on a girl for this long.
“Fine. He’s your friend. You have the right to.” she replied.
“Exactly.” I stated. Then things got awkward, we got nothing to talk about.
“Anyways,” Femke continued, “I live in this street so we might just be neighbors? It’s down the lane, right over there.” she said, pointing at a house which was far down the lane. It had a couple of trucks parked outside it. Unloading their packed crates and luggages. Things I hate about shifting.
“Ah, unpacking?” I asked, she nodded. “It sucks.” I muttered.
“Tell me about it.” she rolled her eyes in annoyance. Right then her phone started to ring, she took it out to check the caller ID.
“My Dad.” She said, looking up at me as I nodded, gestures of understanding. “Turn to decorate my room.” She made finger quotes. I chuckled a bit and nodded.
“See ya later.” I said as I held my hand up, giving her a small wave as she returned me the wave, turned around and started walking. I did the same and walked back to my house.
The walk was approximately 3 minutes from here. And in the whole way, all I could do was wonder; why was I nice to her? It was ridiculous. I hope she doesn’t go all girly, thinking I’m doing this because I like her or something. Phfft.
That fucks my mood up.
I arrived home in a few minutes and the moment I stepped inside, I heard shouting noises coming from the kitchen. I dropped my bags near the fireplace and ran towards the kitchen only to find mom and Jeremy fighting.
“It was your fault Justin ever came to life!” Jeremy yelled at her. I stopped there, dead in my tracks right in front of the kitchen. My hand hovering in the air above the door knob.
“My fault?! It was your fault, Jeremy! You should’ve thought of that before hooking up with me! Now, when he’s lived nineteen years of his life, you’re leaving because you can’t handle having a baby?!” mom yelled back.
What the hell?
I felt a part of me aching on the inside, I was breaking a little. Silently, I was hurt. By the hands of my own parents.
“I didn’t even want Justin in the first place! You always wanted him!” Jeremy yelled harshly.
“Neither do I anymore!” mom snapped. That was it. That hurt. A lot.
I couldn’t handle it anymore so I barged the doors open and stepped in the kitchen.
“Fine, then I’ll leave.” I said, looking at them through watery eyes.
“Justin.” mom breathed but I shook my head. Not letting her continue.
“It’s what you guys want? I’ll do it. I don’t wanna be a burden on you anyway!” with that I turned around, pushed the doors open ran out of the kitchen and then out of the house. I ran as fast as my legs could run. Crying. I was actually crying. Hearing these things from your own parents isn’t pleasant, you know? Not one bit!
I was sobbing heavily. This was too much for me. I’ve never cried before in my entire life. But Mom and Jeremy have been fighting a lot over me ever since I remember. But now it got too much for me. I couldn’t handle it anymore. Having heard this shit since the past nineteen years of your life is too unbearable.
And I finally decided it. I wasn’t helping anyone. I wasn’t making anyone happy. I was a bad influence. No one wanted me. So that was what I was going to do. I was going to leave this world for good. Everyone should calm their asses now since I won’t be a pain there anymore.
Bullshit.
But I was leaving now, so it didn’t matter. I was leaving. Leaving forever.
