A/N so I'm sure you guys have noticed that I changed the chapter names. There will be no book 2. Not yet atleast. I'm going to finish this series in this book, so yeah! GG!

How we met?" Cinder asks, laughing to herself lightly. Suddenly, as she begins the story, it's like she's reliving the memory once more. Like she's pulled back in time, a time of when the only thing that mattered was if she was good enough to be team captain.

It was her first year at Cardinal Academy, more than three years ago. She was 16 then, the casual age for anyone in the enormous  crowd. She anxiously awaited as the headmaster, a man by the name of Stonebrace, stood on the large wooden stage. He cleared his throat, signaling for the room to silence. Instantly, the nervous and excited all hushed themselves, anxiously awaiting his words.

"Greetings, all of you. Thank you for choosing Cardinal Academy as your choice. I am Headmaster Stonebrace. Today, as most of you know, is your first day. You will meet your new teams that have been assigned to you, you will learn your schedule, you will learn to cooperate with your team. So, as of now, your team names will be emailed to you through your scrolls. I wish you the best of luck." Stonebrace suddenly left the mic, walking away as the hundreds of beeps sounded from the student's scrolls.

Cinder looked down at her scroll as it beeped. She noticed that their team name was FALL, and for a second her heart blasted out of her chest. Team names were generally made from the captain's name, which meant only one thing;

She was captain? Out of all people, she was chosen to be captain? Her mind suddenly started connecting thoughts when she remembered that she had to find her teammates. The crowd was buzzing with life now, as students moved to and fro looking for their team.

"Hi! You're Cinder Fall, correct?" A girl asked Cinder. The girl had vibrant purple hair and the most amazing violet eyes Cinder had ever seen.

"Yes, I am. What's your name since you already know mine?" Cinder asked, smiling lightly.

"My name is Violet Ashwood." Violet held out her hand, to which Cinder shook.

"Hi, Violet." Cinder said, trying the name out.

"By the way, I know our other two teammates." Violet said, tilting her head to the right slightly and shooting another smile.

"You do?" Cinder asked, shocked.

"Yeah, their name's are underneath the team name." Violet said as if it was obvious. In fact, it was. Cinder just never noticed due to the shock of her being the team captain.

"Oh...." Cinder said awkwardly as she pulled her scroll and found the names.

Her world nearly dropped.

'No.... Please no....' Cinder thought to herself as she read the first name.

Flint Lockryder, the person she hated the most.

Before she knew it, he was right behind her.

"Hiya Cinder!" Flint shouted, breaking her trance. Immediately, Cinder's mood changed. She was cheery earlier, happy even. Now, however, she was ready to kill at a moment's glance. And she would have, had it not been for the girl standing next to Flint. She had hair just like his, and dark eyes to match. Her dark blue hair was let down, flowing freely and reaching nearly her waist. Her dark blue eyes were a perfect compliment, completely melding with the color of her hair.

She was like a female Flint, only far more beautiful.

"What's your name?" Cinder asked lightly, ignoring Flint. Flint noted this, then took a step back. He allowed her space, just so that she wouldn't turn on him.

"Hi! My name's Lilliana Lockryder, this idiot's younger sister. But you can call me Lilly." Lilliana pointed to Flint, then shook hands with Cinder.

'This is going to go horribly.' Cinder thought as the four left the auditorium, making their way to their first class.

---

And go horribly it did as Cinder found herself constantly annoyed by Flint. He didn't do anything out of hand, but just the sound of his voice annoyed her. He could literally ask a question she hadn't understood herself and she'd call him stupid for it. Of course, she only insulted him in her mind. She had a public image to uphold.

Unlike the rules at beacon where teams would buck with each other, Cardinal Academy had a girl's dorm and a boy's dorm. This meant separation  from  Flint, to which Cinder gladly took. Being from the same team, Cinder bunked with her two other teammates.

"Cinder, me and Lilliana are going to study hall. Are you going to come or?" Violet asked her. Cinder merely shook her head, denying her offer and pulling her favorite book from her personal bag. Once the two had left, Cinder began reading "The Hunger Games".

She related to Katniss Everdeen very well, as her own father was killed at a young age. He had been in the woods, scouring for fire wood when an Ursa suddenly struck him down.

There was a knock on her door, prompting Cinder to close her book and open the wooden door.

She shouldn't have.

"Hey Cinder!" Flint greeted, smiling broadly at her. She was close to slamming the door in his face, but something told her not to.

"So, I noticed you were a bit ticked today and I was wondering, am I the reason your so pissed?" He asked a little too innocent for Cinder. In fact, if ticked her off so much that she exploded, firing all of her anger out and directing it towards Flint.

"Yes! You are! Ever since our days of middle school trainees, you've been pissing me off! You never take things seriously! You joke around too much and at inappropriate times! GROW the FUCK UP!" Cinder's shouting was suddenly beginning to draw attention, but she didn't care. All she cared about was Flint shutting the hell up.

And that he did. Flint just looked at her, knowing that she was right but wrong at the same time. He knew that she was wrong because he only joked whenever he felt the teacher would enjoy it, to which they always did. From that, he knew that his very presence annoyed her. He nearly felt the gift he'd brought fall out of his hands, but he clenched it tighter.

"I...." Flint was at a loss for words. Even he didn't know what to say.

"Don't even start talking! You still don't understand do you!? When we left Signal, I was happy that I was separated from you'! But when I learned that you were on my team,  I nearly killed myself! God, I fucking hate you!" Cinder shouted. Flint took in a massive breath, then dropped the gift.

"I'm sorry." Flint breathed as the gift he had brought fell to the floor, a loud clang spreading throughout the halls. He then walked away, leaving the gift on the ground and swiftly making his exit. Cinder's anger subsided once he had disappeared down the hall, around the corner. She bent down then picked up the gift he had dropped, slowly unwrapping and ripping the gift wrapping.

She gasped slightly. It was book 2 of the hunger games, a book she couldn't get ahold of. She found a bookmark already in between pages. She pulled the bookmark, then read the pink words expertly painted on the bookmark.

"I love you."
