I scramble to get my clothes up off then floor then head into the bathroom.
God, how could I be so stupid?
I really had sex with this guy. I take off the t-shirt that was put on me and put my clothes from last night back on. At least when I woke up he wasn't there. Heaven forbid, he's downstairs just waiting for me with his perfect smile and nice toned abs.. LANA!
I shake my head at my thoughts, grabbing my phone running down the stairs.
God, I'm so late for work.
I run over to the door, opening it but as soon as I get it open a tiny voice comes from behind me. "Excuse me Miss." I turn around, looking at a lady. My eyebrow raises as I point to myself. She nods then walks over to me handing me a banana and a small card.
"Mr. Perez wanted me to make sure you got these, and your Uber's outside waiting for you." I take them both then smile at her. "Thank you." After I take both of the items, I head out the door going towards my Uber. I get in looking at the driver. "Sumner Regional Medical Hospital, please." The driver nods and glances at me in the mirror. I slip my seatbelt on and open the banana, grabbing the small card reading it. It reads...
Lana,
I'm sure we'll be seeing each other again very soon. I told my maid to give you a banana and this card. I'm sorry I couldn't stay around this morning. I had to be at a meeting so have a good day.Sincerely Jacob
I furrow my eyebrows. Beginning to shake my head as I continue eating the banana and put the card down. God, I'm super late.. I jump a little when I hear sirens going off behind us. Instantly, I look out the window seeing a couple of EMT's speed past us.
My eyes widen and I look at the driver. "Hey, follow them hurry!" I finish my banana quickly then pull a crisp 10 dollar bill out my wallet, handing it to the driver. "Stop here!" He looks at me bewildered then suddenly pulls over to the curb.
I grab my stuff and get out the Uber, rushing over to the scene. "What do we have?" I say quickly glancing at one of the paramedics, handing him my stuff. He takes my stuff and puts it in the truck. "Cole Sherlock, age 37. Head on collision, didn't have his seatbelt on, flew through the windshield. Severe head trauma, he's bleeding profusely. Broken leg and arm. Internal bleeding, possibly." He says rambling as they load the gurney into the truck.
I nod quickly then climb in behind the gurney. "Alright, call the hospital and let them know we're on the way. Tell them to have the Trauma Team ready and Trauma Room 1 Open, no one goes into that trauma room. We'll be there in 5." I say as they doors close.
I see him nod through the glass then run off. I look at the guy watching him while the other paramedic works on his head. I hook up the heart monitor to his chest and check it. It's start going down.. more and more. Then the worst sound ever rings in my ears.
"He's flatlining." I can see the paramedic's eyes widening and he scrambles around to find whatever. "You're taking too long!" I ball my fist up and pound it into the guys rib cage, hoping his heart would start back up again. I look at the screen and feel relieved when the spikes start back up again. The repetitive sound beep stables. I let out a deep breath as we pull up to the hospital.
The truck stops suddenly then the paramedic's driving get out and come around to the back and open the doors. I see one of my friends, Harper Grace, also know as Dr. Grace and a couple other doctors that I know. I jump out the truck, helping the other paramedic bring the gurney out.
I look up and see everyone looking at me for information as they start wheeling the patient in. I immediately start talking. "Head injury, left frontal. Call Dr. Mason ASAP in Trauma Room 1. Broken arm and leg, page Dr. Pierce. He's possibly hypertensive. Let's go people!" I grab my stuff from the truck as we all run inside. Harper follows beside me as I walk to the receptionist desk, putting my stuff down on it then we follow the other Doctors and gurney to the elevator.
"Some people take the stairs." One of the Doctors says. Me and Harper immediately dash towards the staircase and open the door, running up the steps. "What happened last night? You left without telling us." She says, holding onto the rail. I look at her and shake my head. "I sent you all messages. I left with this guy." I say as we run to the floor we're suppose to be on.
We run onto the floor, rushing into wash room. "Hm.. A guy? No wonder you smell like sex and sweat." She says hitting the faucet with her arm then grabbing the yellow bar of soap. I glare at her, taking the other bar. "Shut up. You smell like... like.. blood and guts." My hands and arms lather up on the soap then I rinse my arms off. "Aye, that's the best kind of smell." She says doing the same thing as she smiles.
I shake my head, and we go into the door to the Trauma Room. I grab 2 masks and hand one to Dr. Grace. The nurses grab our scrub covers and helps us put them on then ties them up back. We grab a pair of gloves and head over to the table. "Alright everyone.. Let's save this mans life. Remove the bandage." I say grabbing a couple tools as the nurses remove the bandage from his head. Dr. Grace helps the other Doctors with his broken bones.. "Start the time now."

I take off my gloves and scrub cover, putting them in the contamination container while talking to Harper. "He had an Afro. He was very handsome, but it was only one time so." I say, pulling my mask off as we walk out the Trauma Room.
"Where does he work?" She asks, walking beside me. "I actually don't know.. We didn't talk much." I say going over to the elevator. She gives me a certain face that I can't read and I push the button. "What?" I ask facing her.
She shakes her head then we step onto the elevator when it opens. "Was it good?" She nudges me winking. I gasp at her. "Harper.. I'm not telling you that." I smile a little and walk off the elevator once the doors open again. She stays in the elevator pouting. "You're a bad friend!" She yells as I walk away. I look back and smile.
"That's why you love me!" Several nurses and doctors pass me and say "hello." I give them a small nod then head over to the receptionist desk grabbing my stuff. "Thank you, Macy for keeping this safe." I say, nodding. She gives me a bright smile then nods.
I turn on my heel and walk towards the Residents Room. When I go in, nobody's in there. Thank god. I walk over to my locker cubby, and start changing into my scrubs. So this morning may have been going bad, but so far.. I've saved a mans life and that already brightens my day up.
I put my clothes from last night in my cubby then grab my white jacket and name tag. The front of it has a picture of myself, and my name, Dr. Taylor. On the back of it, it has a barcode thing for when you need to access certain points of the building and my full name, Lana Taylor. I grab my sneakers putting them on then toss my hair up in a ponytail.
Alright, this is as good as it's going to get.
I head into the bathroom and grab a new toothbrush from the cabinet. We keep toothbrushes here, just in case someone sleeps at the hospital. I brush my teeth and rinse my mouth out then head back into the room, grabbing my pager.
It's going to be an amazing day. I got this.
I head out the Residents Room, and walk over to the counter where all the charts are. They are all perfectly placed by the name of the Doctor, so far.. I have three people I need to see. I take one of the charts and open it, reading it. Interesting.
"Dr. Taylor, Sophie said she needs you ASAP." I close the chart and raise an eyebrow. "Get one of the residents to help her. Tell her I'm busy right now, and get me Cora. She's on my service today. Tell her I'll be here waiting for her." I say smiling opening the chart again grabbing a pen from my pocket. The nurse nods and runs off. I start signing off papers.
Today's gonna be a long day..
TO BE CONTINUED. 🤔🤔
