Step In The Right Direction

Chapter 13

 Simon's POV

    The next day...

It's ten in the morning on Saturday. Delilah has no school given that it's the weekend, which means we can spend the entire day with Demi. I'm both anxious and excited over the fact that Demi actually wants to see us. The only thing is I have to control my emotions. I know that she doesn't remember me or Delilah so we can't get our hopes up too soon.

Nick is in the room with Demi sorting out some of her belongings. He smiles when he sees me hovering outside. He motions for us to come. I take Delilah by the hand and proceed with caution into Demi's room. She waves and looks at us with beaming curiousity. She explores every inch of our faces to paint of a picture of them. Both of us smile at her. Delilah turns to me. "Daddy, can I join mommy in bed?" I look at Demi in hesitation. "It's your call Demi. We don't want to overwhelm you." She ponders it for a second before agreeing. Delilah climbs gently onto her bed. I tell her just to stay on the edge for now.

"So Simon, you're my husband and Delilah is my daughter. Is that correct?" "Indeed that is correct." "How old are you both?" I laugh. "I like to say not a day over 30." That gets a giggle out of Demi. "I'm 59 and Delilah is 4. We had her not too long after the wedding." "What does Delilah like to do?" "Many things. She's very well rounded. She can draw, sing, dance, write, and act. She also loves to eat, which is both good and bad." Demi smiles. "She sounds so much like me. It's a shame I can't remember her or you." I cup her hands in mine. "As Nick said, you will in due time. Until then, ask as many questions as you want. I'll do my best to answer them clearly."

Demi continues to ask questions for the next couple of hours before claiming to be hungry. I take her down to the atrium to grab food. She decides on going to an Italian place. Delilah and I are all for it. Demi gets a giant heaping of baked ziti and Delilah and I share a pizza. I treat all of us. Demi insists on at least paying for her food, but I refuse to allow her to do so. We sit by the waterfall and eat instantly. The three of us moan in delight at the same time. It feels good to be reunited as a family even though Demi doesn't understand everything that we do. Her wanting to get to know us is a step in the right direction.
