Chapter 23

 Simon's POV

My vision is fuzzy, my head aches, and my stomach feels like an army just ambushed an attack inside and out. The paramedics handed me over to doctors who in turn placed me into a room. Ironically enough, I'm in the same hospital that Demi was in not too long ago. I'm hooked up to IVs and tubes. I groan at the sight. There's almost nothing I hate more than hospitals and doctors. Demi and Delilah can handle them a lot better than I can. This is going to be a struggle for me. My doctor has been talking to Demi in the hall for ten minutes now. I wish they would just come in and tell me what's going on. Not wanting to wait anymore, I take an empty bowl on the table next to me and throw it into the doorway, though I'm careful not to hit Demi.

The doctor looks shocked and Demi rolls her eyes. Both then enter my room. My doctor is apparently a middle aged woman who goes by Dr. Amelia Troy. That's an interesting name.  She looks at me and crosses her arms. "The first thing you should know Mr. Cowell is that you can't get away with throwing things whenever you want to. The second thing you should know is that you do indeed have food poisoning, but you also have an abnormal heart rate. The twist is that instead of like past experiences of it being high, it's actually quite low. Having a low heart rate is just as serious as having a high heart rate. We need to run some more tests to be clear on how to properly treat your condition(s). We're going to let you rest for today, but first thing tomorrow we will be running tests. Is that clearly?" Not having the strength to actually respond, I nod. "Very good. If you need anything such as food, help going to the bathroom, etc..., feel free to page a nurse. I will be back to check on you later."

Nick comes dashing in as Dr. Troy goes out. He wipes away beads of sweat that were building up on his forehead. He hugs Demi and pats my knee. "Glad to see that you both got here okay. Is there any news?" Demi speaks for me. "Simon doesn't have the strength to speak at the moment so I'll be doing most of the talking. Simon has food poisoning and an abnormal heart rate. We don't know if the two are related yet. They're going to run tests tomorrow so we should know more then. I'll be sure to update you Nick." "Thank you Demi. I'll leave you two be. I'm going to pick up Delilah from school. Before I go, I wanted to ask if you wanted me to watch her for the night?" "That would great Nick. Though, can you stay our place for the night? Delilah shouldn't have to spend all of her time outside of her own home or in the hospital." "That's fine Demi. I'll just go home quickly, grab some things I might need for the night, pick Delilah up, and then head to your place. I know where the key is." I watch her hug him one last time as he heads out.

When he's out of range, I give Demi one of my looks that says "I love you, but what the hell did you do that for?" She's so used to my actions that mood swings don't even phase her. In fact, she often finds them humorous when they aren't emotionally damaging. Demi continues to set by my bedside before she falls asleep in the chair next to me. I pat her hand and fall asleep shortly after myself.
