Living In The Moment

Chapter 20

Nick's POV

An hour and a half later...

I bring Delilah home from getting ice cream and the ocean a bit. Well technically we ate our ice cream overlooking the ocean, but lingered around afterwards for a few minutes. I was trying to give Simon enough time to let Demi get settled in and such. Simon lets us in and picks up Delilah. She laughs as he spins her around a few times before gently putting her down. She runs off to the kitchen to play with the toys in her bag. Simon and I go off to the side to talk privately.

"Where's Demi?" "Demi's in bed. She was light headed earlier and I put her to sleep an hour ago. I'm letting her sleep as long as she wants. No interruptions or demands from Delilah will be forced upon her today. Thank you for taking her out for ice cream. I appreciate it. I can take it from here." I raise an eyebrow. He's trying to get rid of me pretty quick. "Are you sure?" "I'm sure and I'm not just saying that to get rid of you. Things are manageable enough for me to watch Delilah and take care of Demi myself tonight. If on the off chance I need your help, I'll text or call you." I put my hands up in surrender. "Whatever you say Simon. Have a good night." I head back to my car and drive home.

   Demi's POV

    The next morning...

I wake up to bright sunlight and it already being ten in the morning. I begin to panic realizing Delilah was supposed to be in school for 8:30. As I inch up a bit more, I can see Simon sitting by my bedside laughing. "Simon, Delilah needs to be in school. Why are laughing?" He places a hand on my knee. "I already took care of it. Delilah arrived at school at 8:15.  Nick is going to pick her up for 2:30 and bring her home." I smile. "You're a saint." He laughs. "Not entirely but I try. Thank you though." The humor is then replaced by concern. "How are you feeling love?"

"I'm still somewhat lightheaded, but my headache isn't as bad as it was last night." He kisses my forehead. "I'm glad to hear that love. I just can't wait until you get better completely." I lean my head on his shoulder. "I can't wait for that moment either." We stay like do until Simon has to leave to pick up Delilah from school.
