Chapter 28

Demi's POV

    Five days later... Tuesday...

         I was able to bring Simon home today and I couldn't be happier along with Delilah. I signed his discharge papers a few minutes ago. Now I'm just waiting on the final confirmation from Dr.Troy. Just as if she is reading my thoughts, she enters the room. Simon sits up straight in bed. "Can he go home Dr.Troy?" She smiles wide and my heart swells with affection. "You are free to go home Simon and Demi you are free from the hospital for a little while. I expect Simon to come to a follow up exam next week though." 

       I pull her in for a big hug. She laughs and welcomes the embrace. Simon shakes her hand and we both thank for the millionth time for saving Simon's life and being so good to our family. She makes sure to get a nurse to wheel Simon out of the hospital in a wheelchair. When we meet my car at the valet, I slowly help Simon get into the passenger seat beside me. He grunts a bit but eases into the comfort of the seat.  Once he is all settled in, I drive us back to the happiest place on Earth besides Disneyland, home. 

20 minutes later...

     I pull into the driveway and Simon is all smiles. He looks at me with adorable puppy eyes. "Demi, I can't I'm finally home. It's been way too long since I've been here." He tries to jump out and I run to the other side to stop him. "Simon, I know you're excited to get in the house, but you have to pace yourself. If you don't pace yourself, you'll just end up back in the hospital. You have to use the walker for the next week and you're not having leaving the house alone. Is that clear?" He sighs but nods. 

     I get the walker out of the trunk and give it to Simon. He wobbles trying to grasp it but manages to do so a minute later. I unlock the door and Delilah comes running to me and Nick emerges from upstairs. "Sorry Demi. She's happy to see her lovely parents in her home again." I laugh and hug Nick. "Thank you for watching her. You're more than welcome to stay for dinner." Simon groans. I gently swat him. "He's going to stay for dinner if he wants to. Do you want to Nick?" "I'd love to. I'll play with Delilah for a bit. You should help Simon get settled." He picks up Delilah and carries her into the living room along with a box of toys. 

        Once Simon hobbles into bed, he pats the spot next to him. I tell him I'll sit down in a few minutes. I just want to put away some of his things. "Demi you work so hard. You should relax." "Simon, I literally have a few outfits of yours and some medication to organize. It will take ten minutes tops." He continues to talk to me while I multi-task. When I'm finally done, I plop into the bed beside him. I lean my head against his shoulder. "So I never asked you Simon, how does it feel to be home? Now you can be an old man in peace." He rolls his eyes playfully. "It feels great to be able to love my little brat in the privacy of our own home as well in the public eye. I couldn't stand being pricked by needles every five minutes and surgery." I grab his cheeks and kiss them. "My poor baby. Hopefully we won't have to endure this again in the near future. Our family has been through so much. I hope nothing happens to Delilah. She's the only one who hasn't had any spells yet." 

      "Delilah is a strong girl. Whatever does come her way, she'll fight it. Just like you do everyday. She doesn't get her strength from me you know. She gets a hundred percent from you." He kisses my forehead. "I love you my warrior. Now get some rest. You deserve it." I follow his request and fall asleep quickly.
