Hoping For The Best

Chapter 21

Simon's POV

   That afternoon...

Nick picked up Delilah from school just now and is bringing her home. That's a weight off of my shoulders today. I didn't want to worry Demi with anything else but I haven't been feeling well myself today.  I've thrown up a couple of times outside in the bushes. I don't what triggered it though. I've just been trying to go about things at my own pace.

    10 minutes later...

Nick comes in with Delilah. I whisper if he could bring her up to her room for a bit. I make sure to greet her and hug her gently before having him follow my instructions. Nick raises an eyebrow at me. "What's going on Simon? You're normally happy when Delilah is around." "I'm fine Nick." "That's load of crap Simon. Tell me what's wrong." I sigh. "I think I have might food poisoning or something. I've thrown up twice today after eating some pork and rice. I ordered it from a place downtown." "Simon, you didn't by any chance order from Yang Li's did you?" "Yes I did why?" Nick races to the kitchen to toss the leftovers. "Jesus Simon that place has been all over the news with cases of food poisoning. Also, a kid when in the there last week and contaminated the place with the norovirus. I'm surprised health services haven't shut it down."

"So just what are trying to tell me Nick?" "What I'm trying to tell you that is if the vomiting and any other symptoms continue to flare up, go to the ER immediately." I wave the idea off. "Nick I have to look after Demi and Delilah needs her dad right now. Despite Demi regaining most of her memory, there are certain things she has to readjust to. A lot of them involve Delilah's school and outside activities." Nick points a finger at my chest. "Your health is important too. That's why if I don't hear that you're feeling better in 24 hours from now, I'm taking you to the hospital myself. Is that clear?" I sigh in defeat. "Fine. Just don't tell Demi yet. Okay?" "I won't tell her for now, but if things change tomorrow for the worse, I'm going to have to. She's your wife Simon. She of all people needs to know about your well being."

With that being said, Nick waves goodbye and drives back to the studio to finish recording some new songs. I go upstairs and help Delilah with homework for the evening. It's just basic addition problems for math and reading, but the workload is heavy. I don't know if her teacher realizes that her students are only four to six years old. Delilah is so exhausted that she doesn't even ask for a big supper. She just grabs some fruit, quickly eats it. and goes right to sleep. I tuck her into bed and kiss her goodnight on the cheek. I then head back to Demi and I's bedroom to see that she's awake and reading. I squint to see that she's reading that new Nicholas Sparks book Me Before You. I hate those cheesy romance novels but Demi just loves them.  I guess a lot of women do to be honest.

"How's the book?" She grins. "It's incredible. I love the plot so much. I can't wait to finish it and go see the movie. I'll go see it with Ariana. I'm not mean enough to put you through that much torture. I laugh and pat her knee. "Thank you love. I'm pretty tired. I was wondering if it would be okay if I went to sleep?" "Simon, you don't have to ask for my permission to get sleep. I'll join you." I crawl an inch away from Demi. "I don't want you to catch anything." She looks at me like I have three heads. "Simon, love, you're acting strange. Is everything okay? Did I do something wrong?" Her eyes begin to water.

I grab her hands gently and kiss them both. "Demi, you didn't do anything wrong. It's just I'm figuring something out and I don't want you to catch any effects of what I may or may not have. It's just safer for me to sleep alone tonight. I promise that if I'm not feeling like myself tomorrow, I'll go get checked out. Do you trust me?" She nods. "I'm glad you do love. Have a good reading session and I'll talk you more about this in the morning. I don't want you to worry unless it's absolutely necessary."

I make myself a bed on the living room sofa. I grab several blankets from the closet to go with the two pillows I brought from upstairs. I lie down and pray that I make it through the night without any disasters occurring.
