Dallon
I remember this particular day during the summer. The first time I've smoked.
And other things.
No, not like that you perv.
It was getting dark. We'd spent most of the day at the beach. And I was so hung up about the fact that I was with another boy, let alone Brendon.
He just kind of turned to me with a stern look and whispered, "Do you smoke?" I quirked an eyebrow and he laughed. "You know, the cigarettes."
"No, I've never tried it. I'd rather not die."
"I- never mind. But I need a pack. And my parents won't let me. If you go with me, they won't suspect I'm buying the product." He stood up and held out his arm like a little kid wanting to play.
I knew he was just using me for cigarettes. But wouldn't you rather feel like you're being useful, instead of just watching. But Im just more concerned that he has an ID and can actually buy stuff like that. I should have told him to hook me up with alcohol.
As the summer progressed, I found myself feeling less and less like he was using me.
His parents of course agreed. His trick worked. I felt bad for them, for how many times Brendon has done something right under their noses. How many times has Brendon done something like this under their noses?
Oh well, that's in the past.
And this was now.
Anyway, we went to the nearest convenience store and bought something to drink, and picked out some snacks because we couldn't come back without anything.
You're gonna laugh at what's coming next.
He told me we had to steal the snacks. I went up to pay for the two drinks.
"What's the difference between e cigarettes and normal cigarettes?" I was told to ask the young cashier after Brendon paid for his cigarettes, so he could grab a few small bags and slid them under his shirt. "Oh the e stands for electronic? Wow I see. Well, I'll take a pack."
"You're too young, kid."
"Fine, give me the real ones." I straightened my back and pulled out my wallet.
"You're still too young." His face was bored and tired.
I sighed. "You are too. You're selling them. Isn't this illegal? I'll give you an extra five." He sighed and opened a sliding door hiding them. He looked at me depicting I needed to decide which kind I wanted. There was this blue pack that I pointed at and he handed them to me.
We left the store and Brendon slid the bags into this random plastic bag he gave us. Brendon looked at me like "Did you really just do that?"
I returned a look and said, "Yeah, I did. You stole snacks, I can't buy smokes?" To which he shrugged and we kept walking. It felt a little awkward to be walking with him considering I'm taller, but you kinda get used to it.
After that I thought the summer would never end. In a good way of course. But here I am, about to walk through the doors on the first day of school.
