this is a bonus chapter because i had nothing to do today except write. it's basically just the boggart scene in draco's point of view, and it's not very good but whatever i tried
Draco's POV
I stood in the back of the classroom, leaning against a pillar and regarding quaking wardrobe with disinterest. "Intriguing, isn't it?" I turned, along with everyone else, to see our new professor. He continued walking down the stairs at a leisurely pace, his words never stopping. "Would anyone like to venture a guess as to what's inside?"
"That's a boggart, that is," a Gryffindor replied. Professor Lupin acknowledged his answer with a satisfied nod. "Very good, Mr. Thomas," he praised, "Now, can anybody tell me what a boggart looks like?"
"No one knows," my least favorite Mudblood answered. I rolled my eyes; of course she knew the answer. She delved deeper into the unnecessary explanation, looking more enthusiastic than someone probably should while in class, "Boggarts are shape-shifters. They take the shape of whatever a person fears the most. That's what makes them so..." She trailed off.
"So terrifying, yes," Lupin finished. He approached the wardrobe calmly, resting a hand on the worn wood. "Luckily, a very simple charm exists to repel a boggart," he told us, "Let's practice it. Without wands, please. Repeat after me: Riddikulus!"
"Riddikulus!" we mimicked. I muttered the spell low enough so no one could hear. "Very good. Now, a little louder, and very clear," the professor ordered, "Riddikulus!" The class echoed the charm more powerfully this time. "Riddikulus!"
I scoffed and rolled my eyes for what felt like the millionth time today. "This class is ridiculous," I grumbled. Crabbe and Goyle snickered.
Then Felicity turned around. "So is your opinion," she snapped, "Shut up, Malfoy." I glared at her, mostly out of embarrassment rather than anger. She sent me a sickly sweet smile and turned back to her friends. I stared at the back of her head, internally debating whether to insult her back or let it go.
I sighed in frustration. I was going absolutely crazy. She was so... complex. I shook my head vigorously, trying to rid myself of the thoughts of her. 'She's just a filthy blood traitor,' my father's voice resounded in my head. Against my previous wishes, I allowed my mind to wander to that day.
It was in first year, the day before Christmas, when I was leaving Hogwarts and ran into Felicity at King's Cross Station. Literally ran into her. She'd told me to choke on my dinner after that, and I found myself intrigued by her. She didn't seem to care that I was eating with the Minister of Magic, nor did she care that I insulted her. In fact, she's always had some smartass comment to fire right back at me.
The moment I got home, I approached my father on the matter. I'd asked about the Longbottoms specifically; how can one twin be petrified of the mere mention of a Slytherin and the other constantly loathing and offending us, with no fear of the consequences whatsoever? His answer was short and full of contempt. "She's just a filthy blood traitor. Her and her whole family. We don't associate ourselves with their type."
I didn't ask any more questions about her after that.
I tuned into the conversation, though my mind still lingered on her. Longbottom (the one that didn't actually matter) looked scared as hell and I absentmindedly wondered what I missed.
"Wand at the ready," Lupin said authoritatively. Longbottom swallowed nervously as Professor Lupin flicked his wand to the right. The wardrobe unlocked and slowly creaked open to reveal Snape.
I couldn't help the little incredulous snort that escaped me. He's afraid of Professor Snape?
"Think, Neville, think," Lupin urged. Longbottom took a deep breath and cast the charm. "Riddikulus!" Suddenly, Professor Snape's usual black cloak disappeared and was replaced with an ugly green outfit with a fox scarf and a hat with a huge brim and a large bird on top of it. My eyes widened at the sight but I managed to bite back my smile.
