Felicity's POV
"Stunning is one of the most useful spells in your arsenal," Harry explained to Dumbledore's Army in the Room of Requirement, "It's a wizard's bread and butter, really." It'd been two days since my fight with Draco, and he hadn't made an effort to communicate with me, nor I him. Harry stood back and gestured at Nigel. "So come on, then, Nigel. Give it your best shot," he offered, arms splayed out. Little Nigel gulped, before chanting, "Stupefy!"
Both Harry and Nigel flew backwards as everyone gasped. "Good," Harry groaned, sitting up, "Not bad at all, Nigel. Well done." We all lined up in order of age and paired up. Ron and Hermione were together, and I fought to hide my smile behind my hand as I overheard Ron saying, "Don't worry, I'll go easy on you." Hermione smiled sarcastically and muttered, "Thanks, Ronald."
"Come on, Ron!" Fred cheered, "You can do it!" George scoffed and whispered, "One Sickle." "Make it two," I said, pulling a couple Sickles out of my pocket. Fred smirked. "You're on." Ron and Mione stood on opposite sides of the room. They both raised their wands and Ron opened his mouth, but before he could utter a word, Hermione cast her enchantment. "Stupefy!"
With a strangled gasp, Ron was thrown backwards. It was my turn to smirk as Fred pressed two Sickles each into mine and George's hands. "Thank you," we said in unison. "Shut up," he replied grumpily. Ron walked over to us, looking miffed. "I let her do that," he lied as Fred glared, "It's good manners, isn't it? It was completely intentional." I rolled my eyes. "Whatever you say, Ronald," I said, before joining the group of girls flocking around Hermione.
The next day, another decree went up. This one read, 'All students will submit to questioning about suspected illicit activities'. I exchanged a look with Mione after we read it, both of us wearing masks to cover how anxious we were. We were on our way back to the Common Room, when Filch intercepted us. "Random questioning," he smirked, "Up to the High Inquisitor's office you go." He herded us there, humming under his breath the whole time until we reached her horrid pink office and stood at the end of a line of fellow students.
The Queen of Toads herself came out of her room, smiling sweetly at a student who looked nervous as she exited. I noted with no small amount of relief that she wasn't in Dumbledore's Army. Umbridge greeted another student, murmuring, "Would you like a cup of tea?"
Every person was the same. Went in nervous, left nervous, always offered a cup of tea and a sickly sweet smile.
Eventually, I was next. I schooled my features into an expression of carelessness and disinterest. "Hello, sweetie," Umbridge greeted me, as if she hadn't made me carve demeaning words into my hand twice in the last month, "Would you like a cup of tea?" I smiled politely. "No, thank you. I don't really drink tea." A lie, obviously, considering the fact that she sees me drink tea at at least one meal every day. Her smile became more forced. "Are you sure? Really, I must insist." I shrugged a little. "Fine. Sure. Why not?"
With that damned smile of her, she handed me a pink teacup and nudged a bowl of sugar closer to me. "So, Miss Longbottom," she started, watching me like a vulture as I bright the tea up to my lips. Just to spite her, I tilted my head back a little, but didn't open my lips enough to drink any of the liquid. She looked satisfied as she continued. "Have you heard rumours about any sort of... unapproved clubs going on lately? Hmm?" I pretended to think for a moment. "Nothing comes to mind, why?" I questioned innocently. For a second, a bit of frustration flashed past her sweet-lady facade. It was gone in a flash. "No reason, dearie, just following protocol." I bit back a comment that would surely land me in detention and asked, "May I leave now? I have OWL's to study for." With another tight smile, she dismissed me.
I waited for Mione, which only took a few minutes. We ignored Filch, who regarded us warily, and headed back to Gryffindor Tower. "That was weird," I said quietly, my eyes glued in front of us. Who knew who was listening? Even the portraits could be her spies. "Agreed. We'll talk about it at the next meeting. Tonight."
