I was stood frozen to the spot. Mrs Holland was going to hospital. She was unconscious.
"Can I see her?" I asked. What a stupid question. It's not like he's going to willing say 'sure, you can see her, she's just being loaded into the ambulance. But beware she won't reply because she's unconscious!' yeh no.
"Look kid I know how everyone feels when someone gets landed in hospital but you have to let the paramedics do their work." he said obviously getting irritated. I was becoming impatient now. Why wouldn't this pig let me see her.
"But I'm the only family she has left!" I cried. Okay it wasn't really a lie. Well maybe. Okay we weren't related at all.
"She's in no state to receive visitors! Just go home and come back to the hospital later!" he bellowed in my face. I took a step back and was quite shocked at his sudden outburst. Guilt started to wash over me. It was my fault. If I hadn't gone on the date with Tom I could have been here and none of this would have happened!
"Please. I'm fostered and she's the only family I have left. Could I at least ride to the hospital with you?" I asked close to tears. Now that wasn't a lie.
The man sighed and gave in. I lowered my eyes to a name tag stuck to his jacket, it read Dick. Name like personality eh.
"Fine but if you don't have anyone to pick you up then you'll be waiting for a while." he said. I nodded and sprinted back to the taxi. I quickly gave the driver some money and told him to take Tom home before I was sprinting back to Dick to ride in his car behind the ambulance.
Mrs Holland's had a fall and is unconscious. Can you meet me at the hospital with some clothes for me? I quickly texted Aaron. Not seconds after I had a reply.
Aye aye captain. was his reply. I didn't even smile, I was too worried.
I slid my phone into my pocket and lowered myself into the passenger seat. Dick started the car and we slowly pulled out of the library's parking lot.
The ride was painfully slow and only a few words were exchanged between us. We were speeding along the bypass behind the ambulance with it's sirens blaring, all the other cars pulling over to the side to let us through.
We finally arrived a the hospital within ten minutes. As soon as the engine cut off I was out of the car and walking over to the stretcher which was being unloaded from the ambulance. Mrs Holland was placed on one of those wheelie bed things with a drip and oxygen mask.
"Miss you will have to wait over there while we get her inside then you can stay in the waiting room." one of the nurses said to me. I gulped and nodded. I stepped aside so they could rush into the hospital. I slowly followed them into the hospital and sat on a comfy chair. I could faintly hear doors banging and people shouting before my eyes got droopy and sleep took over.
Something was tickling my face. I scrunched up my nose and lolled my head to the side. The tickling moved to my cheek then my neck, hot breath blowing my hair ever so slightly. Wait, breath? I lifted my hand to my cheek to feel it wet. A small whimper was escaped from someone- no something's mouth. Bleary eyed I lifted my head to see a black and white blur in front of me.
"Twinkie?" I croaked out, I cleared my throat and repeated myself. Twinkie it was, wagged his tail and barked. I smiled and gave him a noogie which he seemed to appreciate.
"So what's this? No hi Aaron, dearest brother!" a male voice sounded from beside me. I looked to my right to see Aaron sat next to me with a plastic bag full of clothes.
"Hi Aaron, dearest brother!" I mocked in a squeaky voice. I chuckled and grabbed the bag from him, heading to the bathroom to change.
"Where are you going?" he asked.
