Fight or Flight?

You and the flock were back in the air after a breakfast of left-over, half-eaten hamburgers and chicken scraps with a side of wilted mushrooms. It wasn't much, but you now had enough energy for the rest of the trip. You hoped.

"(Y/n) look!" Angel said, pointing ahead. You looked up from watching the world pass by and saw a flock of hawks. "Watch how they move their wings and try it out! We learned a whole lot from them last year!" To prove her point, Angel fanned out her Primary feathers which made her slow down. When she smoothed her Primary feathers, she sped up. "We didn't even know we could move those feathers! Try it!"

You concentrated on the muscles in your wings and managed to spread your feathers slightly. Immediately, you felt the drag of the air and felt yourself slowing down. Grinning, you flattened your feathers and felt the resistance of the air lift as you sped up. Laughing, you flew up to where the hawks were and studied the way they moved their wings.

You found out that you could turn at sharper angles if you spread out the scapulars of one wing, and kept the others flat. You practiced turning and diving for a few more minutes until you hear Angel shout, "Erasers at 4 o'clock! And they've got guns!"

Max shouted the orders to scatter and not fly in predictable patterns. You heard a bullet whiz by your head, missing you by inches. You immediately dove for the trees, swerving from side to side, all of the carefreeness of learning from the Hawks, gone in an instant.

Right before you hit the tree line, you stop and turn around. You see the flock, battling the Erasers, and think 'Why aren't I helping?'

'Because you can't fight!' You argue with yourself.

'I can distract!'

'I can get shot!' You counter.

'But what if I don't?'

'Then Max will kill me!'

'Screw it!'  You told yourself, flying as fast as you could towards the fight. You flew up and around towards the back of one eraser and tucked in your wings to dive at him. Right before impact, you swung your feet out in front of you and kicked the Eraser full on in the back of his head, sending him flying foreword 50 feet. The other Erasers, and flock members, now knew you were there.

No one shot a bullet at you so you assumed that the flock had disarmed them. You saw a furry fist fly towards your face and you ducked to the side, punching your attacker in the ribs with as much force as you could muster, feeling bone crack beneath your fist, adrenaline rushing through your veins once again. You jumped up and slammed your heels into his ugly snout and he crumpled to the ground.

You were pulled off your feet as another Eraser grabbed your wings and yanked you back. You cried out in pain and struggled to free yourself. You heard the Erasers grizzly laugh and felt your cheeks flush with anger. You used the leverage to jump and swing around, kicking him in the side of the face. His grip faltered and you tore yourself free and took to the air, blood soaking your shirt sleeve.

The wound in your arm had almost completely healed, but fighting had ripped it open again. You clutched your arm and flew higher into the air, watching as the flock finished off the last of the Erasers, and followed them into the trees where Max wheeled around to face you, anger prominent in her eyes.

(A/n): Well, my computer got possessed halfway through this chapter. Here's what happened: I left to pee and when I came back, I saw that the page was slooowly scrolling down by itself! I scrolled back up to the top of the page, using the mouse, and then let go.....and it started slooowly scrolling back down! I scrolled back up again a few more times with the same result until finally, when I scrolled up, it ceased to slowly scroll back down. I lean in real close to the computer screen and mutter 'Christo' AND THE FREAKING SCREEN IMMEDIATELY JUMPED TO THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!!!!!! Naturally, I flipped out, receiving weird and strange looks from my dad, and left the house to call my friend. I came back in and sprinkled salt on the keyboard, mouse, and screen. Needless to say, it hasn't been scrolling by itself since. I still might need to perform an exorcism. ...see ya!

OKAY EXORCISM TIME!!!! IT JUST QUICKLY SCROLLED BACK UP THE PAGE THRICE WHILE I WAS TYPING!!!!!!!! BYE!!!
